I'm still using an iPhone 12, and given I have a proper camera, see no reason to (ever?) upgrade. After a battery replacement, it still runs perfectly well. That seems like a problem for Apple.

Apple makes a sizeable sum through the App store and accessories. I don't think low churn on their flagship hardware is keeping their executives awake at night.

Martin Shaw's recording of the Silmarillion is similarly wonderful.

While we’re at it, Christopher Lee’s narration of Children of Húrin deserves a mention.

The Lord of the Rings

I'm rereading the Lord of the Rings after about ~15 years since my last one. For this read through I've been thoroughly delighted by the interlude of poems and songs whereas before I'd just gloss over them. I wonder if this is an effect of getting older.

For anyone interested, the musical artist Cosmo Sheldrake has an album entitled Wild Wet World [0] where he samples sounds from the ocean. He often incorporates a lot from nature in his music and is a real treat to see live.

Gift link with video, because a static archive doesn't do the opening video justice:

I appreciate the gift but I suspect sleep tonight will be less than appreciative.

Here in Oregon we have a lot of them, but it never gets old seeing them! We usually see at least a couple on our way to the coast from Portland. Earlier this week, my wife and I saw a mating pair fly high over this field by our house and spiral down towards the ground, holding talons. It was amazing, they are huge incredible birds. I’m so glad to live somewhere that has lots of public land and habitat preservation so my family can enjoy the clean air, water, skies, and trees, as can all of the wildlife we have.

Adding to this thread: I see them a ton around Cathedral Park in St Johns.

My number one wish for this iteration is more reliability out of the joycons.

How did you do your research and which one did you eventually buy?

This sounds like the Roborock S series. I went with lidar over camera because it can run in any lighting condition and I don’t have a need for poop detection.

Clojure for the Brave and True[0] is what introduced me to Emacs. Getting a job writing Clojure(script) cemented my use of it.
