Well, I know what I’m doing tomorrow when I get up.

I had the same thing happen to me. I tried running a script for a month without luck (Sydney region). What did work was adding a credit card to upgrade to a paid account - no issues launching an instance, and it's still covered under the free tier.

oh, you think security won't mandate to run CS on linux.

Granted it didn't down linux this time but nothing is stopping it.

We've had production outages caused by Microsoft Defender our RHEL boxes :(

> I want to automate (or at least semi-automate) downloading bank statements. I've got ~14 accounts (checking, savings, credit card, IRA, investment, HSA) across 7 financial institutions.

Could you not shoot an email to those institutions asking for a copy of the documents?

hrrsn · 2 years ago
Not OP, but I do the same for ~7 accounts across 5 institutions. There's no need to contact them since you can manually download the statements, but it's a chore if you're doing it frequently. I usually run my script a few times a week.

Do you have a source for this? Would like to read about that.

If you check their document request in the browsers network tab, you can see two response headers, cf-cache-status, cf-ray which are appended by Cloudflare.

Appending /cdn-cgi/trace is also a good tell.

I once implemented delivery APIs for e-commerces, DHL etc... We did deliveries for months with labels printed from a test api (forgot to switch to prod servers), the packages did get delivered but we weren't billed. We came clean as soon as we realized what happened :).

Some years ago, I was working at a small retail store and we built a new site, going live with Stripe in test mode. That one took a few months to notice.

> The issue was resolved by moving behind a dedicated DDoS mitigation service, and the attack stopped at the end of the day.

Step one, create DDoS mitigation service.

Step two attack random high traffic sites with advertising and covert DDoS attacks.

Profit?

Wouldn't be the first time: https://www.tripwire.com/state-of-security/mirai-iot-hijacki...

> Jha and White co-founded a company called ProTraf Solutions, which provided anti-DDoS services to Minecraft servers. Nothing wrong with that, of course. But in order to create new customers, the pair started targeting websites with DDoS attacks and then either tried to extort money to call off the attacks or offered services which they claimed could defend the sites.

YouTube premium is $17 a month in my market. I'm not paying $17 a month to remove ads from YouTube tier content. I'd pay $2 a month tops. Netflix is $22 a month for premium and Amazon Prime is $10 a month. YouTube does not even come close to providing similar value as those services. I'm not interested in any of the other junk they force you to buy with YouTube premium, it's just bundling to inflate the cost.
hrrsn · 2 years ago
There's nothing stopping you from signing up in a different market and paying $2 ;)

Which begs the question: if I charge my new Mac with an iPhone charger (8W), will it lengthen the battery life ?
hrrsn · 2 years ago
Probably not, seeing as that's not enough power to charge it up.
