You can enter the program and if you don't like it you can always drop out and join slightly stable(Series B / Series C) startup. You will have amazing network. Startups by very definition in failure mode until they crack PM fit, especially the early stage one.

I love niche forums like HN because it satisfies my itch for mind expanding content. The closest I got to that was OG StumbleUpon, if you know, you know.

I'm unfortunately not passionate about much nowadays; in treatment for stage 4 cancer, so I'm fairly exhausted all the time. I'm glad I can still maintain my cognitive abilities during chemo so I can still do my job.

I completely understand what you are going through . I am in similar spot not cancer but chronic genetic condition that’s destroying my organ . The exhaustion is real .
hpagey commented on Ask HN: Having trouble getting senior applicants, wondering what to do about it    · Posted by u/throw1138
AndyNemmity · 4 years ago
We've been unsuccessful finding senior roles lately. The job is slightly underpaid, but the technologies, team, and everything else are amazing.

It's difficult to communicate that in a job rec. I'd never leave for a much more higher paying role because the weight of being on a team of real experts working on real challenges far outweighs additional money.

Just the way it goes out here. For the same reasons you wouldn't be able to hire me, other people won't be hired for less than what they want.

Edit: The "slightly underpaid" comment is getting all the attention, so I'm just going to make it literal.

200k before considering stocks, and other benefits, remote US.

That's what I consider slightly underpaid. It's not a euphemism for "massively underpaid"

is the stock liquid? checkout levels.fyi for senior / staff level compensation.

What aggressive? They should at least get back to neutral, and they're not even there yet.

came to say exactly this. We are not even at neutral yet.

Proton servers are not in the U.S. and when I came upon this thread the question explicitly stated not Proton.
hpagey · 4 years ago
Proton email servers are in Geneva I believe. But isn't that better than being in the US?

Is that true? Is it typical for bonuses in the Bay Are to be much higher than 180k?
hpagey · 4 years ago
typical bonuses in bay area are percentage of salaries. Varies between 10% to 25% of your base. This looks like a retention grant which is also fairly common.

Transplants are coordinated regionally. Jobs just purchased homes in multiple areas with shorter wait times than California. One of the advantages of being rich.
hpagey · 4 years ago
Incorrect. You don't have to be rich. I am currently being evaluated for deceased donor transplant outside my home state of California. You just have to register at another center and you are allowed to multi list. Some states have residency requirements but lot of them do not.

I'm a pessimist and when I look at the graft half-life in your article, it puts a wet blanket on things. For example, half of kidney transplants from a deceased donor fail in 7-9 years. That's not a lot of time. A lung gets you on average less than five years.

I would be interested in whether it's survivorship bias, or lack of in this case.

hpagey · 4 years ago
The average lifespan of deceased donor kidney is 10 to 15 years and for live donor is around 15 to 20 years. People normally get multiple transplants throughout their lives.
