Referencing Marc Benioff making bold claims about AI isn't much evidence, he's pulling these numbers out of thin air. Despite claiming they won't hire software engineers in 2025, there are plenty of positions open at Salesforce for software engineers.

When did this guy stop writing about engineering and start running a tech gossip rag?

I haven't seen any hint that the Critical Alerts entitlement would use any special infra compared to regular push notifications.

It's just metadata in the notification body indicating to the device to ignore silent mode etc.

It's e.g used by Pagerduty [0]. It's just a way to override notification settings.

The software for the systems you mention have this entitlement (or some equivalent), but are otherwise completely unrelated to this.

Nice to see PagerDuty mentioned here. I was on the mobile team at PagerDury that battled to get the entitlement to use Critical Notifications in the app. We were refused multiple times before we got the entitlement.

They pretty much say that the company gutted their team to the point they cannot support the project anymore.

Given the latest layoff rounds there is also good chance that indeed they fired the people who had the expertise on this.

Who would want to work on this thing? It hasn't been a standard part of Windows for at least a decade.

I know there is a crowd that talks about debt alot and these are all legitimate concerns

However they could also raise taxes on capital gains and top end income brackets - which are at ludicrously low levels for folks of significant wealth - which would go a very long way here. Some estimates suggest it could put the US back in a surplus quite quickly

edit: I'm saying there is an argument for raising taxes. I don't think its off the table like some people suggest. I know it may not be popular with some but we could discuss the merits.

Cutting fundamental government services feels wrong too

It's been argued a lot that such a move would cause a good portion of American billionaires to just pack up and move to another country. Rich people are mobile in a way that poor people are not.

On the other hand, Testflight has a pretty good acquisition story. It got "merged into main" and is now a first class citizen of the iOS development ecosystem. Workflow being acquired and turning into Shortcuts is a pretty successful outcome IMHO. Beats still continues to make slightly cheaper headphones. FoundationDB is still there.

Apart from Dark Sky, what other products with users has Apple acquired and shut down? Being acquired by Apple doesn't seem to be the obvious death knell that it is for other companies.

BuddyBuild was acquired by Apple and used for their server CI platform, almost immediately cutting off Android support. That was a shame because it was a great platform for Android builds.

Maybe don’t put ads between every paragraph on your blog.

I was reading this on my iPhone 11 Pro and my phone was turning warm in my hand. My music kept stopping and starting again. Eventually I had to kill the browser.

I am sorry this is happening to the authors. Maybe it’s related to the scumminess of their blog, maybe it isn’t.

> 1Password is a closed-source, cloud-hosted service. At any time, for any reason, they can close and delete your account

They used to offer their apps offline and you could "host" it anywhere. Venture Capital ruined them.

Having the passwords in the cloud is useful though. Before, if you wanted to use your vault across multiple machines, you had to store your vault in someone else’s cloud. This simplifies the process.
