Also from this era and loosely related.

what.cd was the world's greatest music discovery mechanism. You could always ask for recommendations in the forums or in the comment thread of the albums pages. The community always delivered. I miss that type of camaraderie. I also spent more on music as a member of that community than since it has been disbanded.

OiNK before that, too. Once waffles and what disappeared then I was never 'able' to get on to one of the newer ones… the whole process is some real archaic thing. Used to have a great 'profile' on those others, but yeah.

I think it would be very beneficial if the browser vendors, together with screenreader vendors and those who use them, were able to come together to actually unify the approach to how elements/these attributes/etc. are communicated to the end user.

Raise your hands if you don't use Cloudflare in your stack and are proud of your decision.

You are the future of the operational internet!

I have it pointed at my domains just for basic stuff and luckily that seems to be working at least.

This reminds me of Quake with the DeFrag mode "sub-game", but also gameplay available in Quake Live in which you could have a Railgun only match, but they could also behave like Rocket Launchers for rocket jumps.

Also allowing players to change the configuration of their game through the dev console was cool. My favorite visual change was to configure the railgun trails to persist for multiple seconds.

Railgun trail to match the reload time, always!

Will hop over to one of these the day that the AAA multiplayer titles I want to play are supported. I know it's down to the anticheat, but I still wanna play 'em. Hopefully Valve are able to push that forward.

It is truly stupid that they are trying to make it more human-like. They should have added a radio button to turn off these sort of customizations because it doesn't help some of us. Just pisses me off. It is supposed to be an answering machine, not some emotional support system.

I'm on the hunt for ways (system instructions/first message prompts/settings/whatever) to do away with all of the fluffy nonsense in how LLMs 'speak' to you, and instead just make them be concise and matter-of-fact.

fwiw as a regular user I typically interact with LLMs through either:

- aistudio site (adjusting temperature, top-P, system instructions)

- Gemini site/app

- Copilot (workplace)

Any and all advice welcome.

Probably because it makes it easier to observe and/or intercept API calls and other data exchange between the client and the server. It's trivial to disable things like SSL cert pinning, etc. on rooted devices.
emsixteen · a month ago
… and then the return argument is that those who actually want to do this nefariously are already going to be able to hide device modifications/rooting.

F1 I sort of understand, there's a lot of aspects to it even though it is at the end of the day, a bunch of people driving in circles. The memes are good anyhow.

With foot/basketball, hockey, etc. there is no technical aspect if you don't get into pro tier shoe and ball design or whichever non-strictly rule defined straws one could competitively grasp at, but I guess most people relate through familiarity of actually playing it themselves? But there is a sort of chicken-and-egg problem there where to play it well enough for it to be actually fun you need to already be a fan and have a good grasp of the rules, otherwise it's just people running back and forth on a court.

Insanely ignorant.

That's already over ten years ago... Wow CS:GO is still the new CS for me, that never catched on and everybody played 1.6
emsixteen · 4 months ago
Source was the game that never really grabbed the 1.6 playerbase, moreso than 1.6.
