I hear so many people rave about orgmode on HN, all of them emacs users. This seems obvious since it is an emacs feature after all, but if orgmode is so good, has it not been implemented outside of emacs? Is there a standalone orgmode implementation that non-emacs users should look into?

The reason is that elisp org-mode is huge and re-implementing it without elisp is a great undertaking.

I started an implementation in javascript that I integrated in an obsidian plugin [0]. But the plugin has a long way to go before reaching feature parity with emacs orgmode.

Man... on top of the obvious moral issue with enabling this hack, I'm astounded that someone would do this for $1k per person. Putting my freedom on the line would be so much more expensive than that.

On a more technical note, is there any safeguard against SIM swaps? Something like a fingerprint scan that's tied to your SIM. I'm not familiar with phone hardware at all but I'd love to hear if someone's working on this type of thing

Biometrics like fingerprint scans can only be used as a username, not a password. Reusing passwords is a bad practice and having 200 different biometrics for 200 different services is not realistic. As soon as your fingerprint that you registered on your lost phone is leaked you will be in a world of trouble if you use it for other services. (Also biometrics can change with time)

The index and the staging area are not the same thing. If you define staging area as what will be committed, then the staging area is only one part of the index. The index also records untracked files and conflicts for example.

It has been implemented to a degree that it is useful for most users. For instance, you can now map Control-I and Tab separately, as well as keys like Control-1, Control-2, Control-;, etc.

Thank you for your work on neovim :)

I noticed the difference by playing with kitty. It makes me consider switching to a compatible terminal emulator.

The progress is that this protocol has been implemented in many widely used programs, such as vim, neovim, helix, kakoune as well as at least two more terminal emulators, wezterm and foot in addition to kitty.
durazabu · 3 years ago
It seems like the protocol has not been implemented yet in neovim.

Glad to see this page featured again.

Is there any advance on that front?

One feature for code search that I've wanted for some time that could unlock some really interesting results would be to allow search to reach into the git file history.

I've found myself sometimes thinking that something existed in a particular codebase and I go to look for only to discover that I'm unable find it. Then, I realize that the code I was looking for has been removed. I can only find it by browsing back into the history figuring out the events that led to the deletion or change. Being able to search the history would be killer IMO.

Are you familiar with git pickaxe?

For example: git log -pS 'deletedvar'

Same mechanism that we could use to disambiguate keys like ^H and backspace.
