A very strange action to take for someone who claims to have no recollection of the meeting.

I like a version of this[0] where the weekdays are aligned.

Is there a way to get rid of the text box overlay or does it just disappear when you print it?

The grunts working for TSA on the floor at airports aren't desperately clinging for the notion that they're doing something important, or working towards some lofty, noble, and/or altruistic goal.

It's just a job.

They're principally motivated to do this job by the promise of a steady paycheck and decent benefits -- the same motivation that most other people with steady paychecks and decent benefits also have.

In my experience many of them do feel like they're doing something important, and some seem principally motivated to do the job by the promise of being able to bully travellers.

What was the question like? "How to print a decimal in C"? Valuable questions aren't downvoted. If you ask about something that could be found on the first Google page, then no surprise you are being downvoted.
dataengineer56 · 5 months ago
I asked a novel question, well-written and clear, and a "subject matter expert" decided it was too similar to another question (it wasn't), so they defaced it, downvoted it and closed it.

Stack Overflow is dying, it's extremely difficult to get new questions through. Even if they survive moderation then they're unlikely to get answers.

Has anyone else pretty much stopped using AI at this point? The only thing I use it for to help generate README's or Javadocs, and then heavily edit them. I had it in my workflow and it burned me so many times I just went back to google and stackoverflow.

If I have a question for SO these days then I ask Claude instead and tell it to use SO where possible. It's preferable to actually asking it on SO which often results in the question being edited, downvoted and closed by someone with an anime child profile picture.

> I played online professionally for the year leading up to the big online shutdown

Are today's online tables simply impossible to win? (bots, collusion)

Or are players simply too evenly matched and the house rake/fees kills you anyway?

dataengineer56 · 5 months ago
It's become a lot more difficult to win online since online poker was banned in the USA. The USA sat at a huge net loss online and every other country profited.

This was very interesting to read, and news to me. It's gratifying to see Mississippi prove that it's possible to break out of a pattern of failure. I would love to see a discussion around the specific policies and practices that MS has put in place to actually achieve these results. The article doesn't really discuss that.

Are you talking from experience with DoorDash or Deliveroo? This has not been my experience with Deliveroo in London, UK. There’s just no way I could get the same food quicker, everyone is on motor/pedal bikes so delivery is usually about 20-30 minutes. Food is always hot on arrival bar the odd item (Nandos chips specifically, always cold).

Also I’m ordering Deliveroo specifically so I can get the time back, that’s the price you’re really paying - I had a long day at work and I want the time to relax and not spend it sourcing and making dinner.

dataengineer56 · 10 months ago
Nando's chips are cooked fresh when the delivery driver arrives so that they're as fresh as possible. The probelm here is that chips travel horribly.

The English icon has the Union Jack flag rather than the US flag, so it automatically elevates the service above Duolingo for me.

To me they look like very generous refund policies. I checked Italy's Trenitalia and what they offer is[1]:

> 30-119 minutes: 25%

> 120+ minutes: 50%

I suppose anything below 30 minutes is consideres "on time".

This is UK law(?) or standard across all rail networks. It's automated too, you don't have to fill in a form. Immediately after arriving at your destination you get an email telling you that your train was delayed by enough to give you compensation, click a link and the money is in your bank account in a couple of days.
