I think the general policy of “if you want to say stuff like that go to a lava pit like Gab where they affirmatively want to hear it” is good and should just be the moderation policy in any mainstream situation. People who say outright racist stuff like that are generally a highly vocal minority who often end up pushing away the less vocal normies who make up most of the audience.

I agree with this. I think of the few websites where moderation truly is very light such as 4chan and how the discussion on those websites can get truly disturbing. Even the fairly innocuous boards dedicated to the discussion of hobbies are full of slurs and insults.

I greatly appreciate free speech in principle and don’t have any problem with websites like 4chan existing, but those spaces don’t feel conducive to the kind of thing the article talks about.

The free speech absolutists in these comments seem to disparage the heavy handed moderation tactics on this neighbor forum, but it sounds like that kind of management is working out extremely well for it.

A paragraph of accurate historical details about government atrocities is undone by a single rhetorical remark at the botttom to drive the point home? TIL.

It’s an ethos thing. Don’t make ridiculous claims if you want to convince people of your argument; by nature people will assume everything else is nonsense, too.

I hate AMEX platinum now, it is an overpriced card.

For me, Venture X is a much better card. Cheaper, much better travel portal with PRICE MATCHING, widely accepted in EU, PRIMARY car rental insurance up to $75k.

The AmEx platinum seems like a fancy coupon book full of credits I mostly wouldn’t use. Maybe if I cared about airport lounges more I would feel differently, but I agree with your sentiment. I have a hard time understanding the value prop of their charge cards.

One thing the Apple Watch is missing is being able to call a Lyft or Uber. Not something I do super often but it really would let me leave the phone at home more often.

Also would have liked to see a little hole in the corner to thread a loop to.

colingoodman · a year ago
Uber used to have a watch app that allowed you to do this. I assume they canned it due to lack of usage.

> What if sometimes you could just… leave your phone at home? With all the essentials to stay connected, tinyPod makes that actually possible.

But that’s a feature of an Apple Watch, this case doesn’t impact this in any way - I already leave my phone at home like this and I don’t own this case.

I also thought it was funny that they are listing features like apple pay and magnetic charging as if these features have anything to do with the case.

And we can definitely rely on plurality of professionals.

There were many (almost all) journalists and intelligence professionals that claimed the Hunter Laptop was not real… except of course it was and entered into evidence in his gun trail and conviction recently.

Could you link something showing that "almost all" journalists claimed the laptop wasn't real? Some articles from notable publications making such claims, etc.

I've had a bug where unpausing a particular app requires doing so 2+ times before I can access the app. The bug has persisted on multiple devices for multiple years and it makes for a pretty clunky user experience. That's one example that comes to mind for me.

I get its supposed to be a funny joke, but CA has some of the biggest transit projects in the country going on currently. CAHSR is wildly expensive, but its still being built, and will far and away be the best rail corridor in the country when its done.

LA has been building a decent amount of transit for how hard it is to get anything done there.

SF already has a fairly robust and solid transit network, and there have been some great maintenance projects done in the last 10 years to keep it going. Its only current major issue (imo) is the frequency, which still isnt the worst ever. MUNI is also getting new signaling to improve frequency, and a massive underground train station is going to get built at Salesforce (finally making use of a great transit hub).

BART is a great system with some much needed improvements happening currently, including new fare gates and all new signaling. They also just finished upgrading to the new fleet of cars, and came in under budget!

CalTrain is also rolling out their brand new electrified system in September, with hugely upgraded frequencies, that will make transit up/down the peninsula much better.

It isnt a ton when compared to other countries that build much more efficiently, but its still more than anywhere else in the country.

Los Angeles is indeed building a lot of public transit. As is the nature of any of these projects, especially in California, it will be many years (decades) before much of it is complete. But it's happening nonetheless.

For what it's worth, both Apple Maps and Bing Maps now have street-view like features, at least in my neck of the woods (Canada).

Just about all of Apple's alternates to Google services are fine in my experience. I recently switched from Proton Mail to Apple Mail and have been satisfied saving a few bucks a month there. I don't know how to evaluate Apple's claims to privacy though.
