Is there a difference between "OK" and "Mediocre"?
btucker · 2 days ago
I probably should have written it as “OK Engineer--“

> AI is only as smart as the human handling it.

I think I'm slowly coming around to this viewpoint too. I really just couldn't understand how so many people were having widely different experiences. AI isn't magic; how could I have expected all the people I've worked with who struggle to explain stuff to team members, who have near perfect context, to manage to get anything valuable across to an AI?

I was original pretty optimistic that AI would allow most engineers to operate at a higher level but it really seems like instead it's going to massively exacerbate the difference between an ok engineer and a great engineer. Not really sure how I feel about that yet but at-least I understand now why some people think the stuff is useless.

I've been starting to think of it like this:

Great Engineer + AI = Great Engineer++ (Where a great engineer isn't just someone who is a great coder, they also are a great communicator & collaborator, and love to learn)

Good Engineer + AI = Good Engineer

OK Engineer + AI = Mediocre Engineer

the sad thing about this is what made it magical before was the people that were on there, and it’s impossible to get that back now!

Also, it was a time when being “online” was an active state. Now we’re “online” passively 24/7.

How is the author getting a symmetric 600mbps connection with Monkeybrains? They're an awesome local ISP and provide internet via roof mounted PtM wireless connections.

I want to love them, but sadly I only get an unreliable 80mbps/40mbps connection from them. With occasional latency spikes that make it much worse. To make up for this I run a multi-WAN gateway connecting to my neighbor/friend's Comcast as well. Here's the monkeybrains (https://i.imgur.com/FaByZbw.jpeg) vs comcast (https://i.imgur.com/jTa6Ldk.jpeg) latency log.

Curious if the author had to do anything special to get a symmetric 600mbps from Monkeybrains. They make no guarantees about speed at all, but are quite cheap, wholesome, and have great support. Albeit support hasn't been able to get me anywhere close to the author's speeds.

I love Monkeybrains! I had something in the neighborhood of a 600mbps symmetric connection through them in the late 2010s when I lived in SF. The only issue was when it rained hard the speeds would deteriorate.

Interesting you're getting such slow speeds. Ask them if a tech can stop by and troubleshoot with you.

I have found that no amount of online discussion has ever changed anyone's mind on larger issues. We're all pissing in the wind here.
btucker · 4 months ago
Then why did you post that?

No thank you. I am absolutely uninterested in civil discussions with people who literally want to control everything I say and put my good friends into reeducation camps. When you accept communism you throw the concept of civil discourse out the window.

I understand you're trying to "both sides" an argument. What have you found that has achieved for you in the past? Do you change people's opinions with this?

Were these one-year contracts?

I'm sure PaywallBuster has reviewed these and confirmed they were one-year spending before making their statement.

The categorical elimination of single-family zoning along with any building envelope restrictions that would make as-of-right 3-flats uneconomical.

A step in the right direction last week for the largest upzoning effort in the city! https://archive.is/QuOcJ

Of course the a vocal minority is fuming about higher density.
