The Github website is slow everywhere. It is truly a piece of shit software both in terms of performance but also UX/UI and everything in between.

It's a product of many cooks and their brilliant ideas and KPIs, a social network for devs and code being the most "brilliant" of them all. For day to day dev operations is something so mediocre even Gitlab looks like the golden standard compared to Github.

And no, the problem is not "Rails" or [ insert any other tech BS to deflect the real problems ].

I find it fast on Chrome / Mac and I actually love the UI a lot. (The iOS app is also a wonderful app)

It does not appear to be working for me right now, I get "error loading exercises".

What are your thoughts about the wger project [0]? It is a FLOSS AGPL-licensed self-hosted fitness/workout/nutrition manager that has existed for almost a decade (I think?) It's a django app and has a companion flutter app that runs on android/ios/windows/linux/macos. It supports multiple users and could even be used to run a gym. Body.build [1] is a newer FLOSS project (also browser-based) that is focused around building a weight lifting program. The author of body.build also contributes to wger.

I'm using wger in my homelab and while there are a lot of moving pieces to the self-host process, it works well. I'd say the biggest limitation is the comprehensiveness of their exercise database, but that is something that many people have recognized and are steadily expanding. If anyone is willing to contribute exercises (and exercise media) to this AGPL licensed project, they would definitely appreciate it!

I come from the times where winamp was the go-to music player. Today, even in the age of streaming services I still keep a local music library organized in folders. So, just as others here in the comments I built myself an old-school music player as a hobby project to listen to my music offline. It's a 1 page html/js app, has full keyboard controls and also features a simple queue mechanism functionality Check it out: https://nobsutils.com/mp

To me the go-to music player has always been foobar2000. (Replaced today by Cog app)

These subtle animations while reading the text make me dizzy. What are they animating the text for?

Boy that was a confusing headline. I did not realise that fandom or giant bomb were proper nouns.

These uppercase titles need to stop, why is that?

Annoyingly, when I go to that page, even from Google where I found that URL too, I end up at the German homepage www.history.de (no path, the main page). I cannot go to history.com no matter what.

I hate "intelligent" websites as much as I like touchpad microwaves, and that means not at all. Why would anyone assume an enforced(!!!) connection between my geographic location and the language-version of the website?

Mine goes to Youtube after some quick redirects :(

Turn off watch history. That disables the homepage. Which in turn means you only see things you directly link to, or things you have subscribed to (after going to the subscriptions page).
bromuro · 4 months ago
Yet the app is so bad that after switching to the iOS home screen, it forgets the video you were watching and goes back to the home page. History at least allows you to find it again and continue watching. I don’t care about their “imposed” suggestions either , so it’s about choosing the less shitty experience.

Certain long emails I get don’t show the scroll bar at all in iOS Mail, and I get low grade anxiety not knowing how long the email is or how much more is left.

I’m also perplexed why the mail developers would allow such a thing or what kind of bug causes such behavior.

Yet in iOS you can swipe vertically some pixels and you will see the scrollbar telling you this exact information.

To visualize further, 60 barrels could contaminate one square mile of aquifer in ND, and 3500 barrels can contaminate 60 square miles.

Help me visualize a square mile - in km if possible!

Your comment is very obviously AI generated. You can't even be bothered to write a small blurb about your website (that is about chatbots, for crying out loud) by hand?
bromuro · 5 months ago
How is it very obviously? Because the correct grammar? What if OP is not native English speaker and let AI proofread it?
