I've found cannabis to be extremely helpful. It adds a tinge of paranoia - so if you're paranoid about not reaching your potential, it can kick you into gear.

nah I found cannabis to be counterproductive in my case. It was never only a "tinge" of paranoia. It always comes up in bouts. And it was a slippery slope. I'd often keep getting distracted with other things like YouTube, games and social media to keep the anxiety and paranoia away.

Took a while to kick it out.

Haha, followed the link in Firefox but it was blocked because of my ad-blocker.

Who has the time to track all the stuff Google collects about you? At least spread out the tracking by NOT using every Google app. They've become the single largest surveillance organization in history, dwarfing even China's government.

Besides Firefox and Duckduckgo work so well I don't notice the difference.

Next, dropping Gmail...

This. FF and DDG work so well together that I hardly notice any downsides moving to it. DDG is my default search engine now and I rarely use google for sports updates. That's it.

I keep hearing this, but how many of reddit users actually use third party apps?

If Twitter proved anything, its that its really hard to kill a popular social media network, no matter how badly managed or drama filled it is.

I moved from Reddit's official App to Apollo about 2 months ago because of huge battery drain and haven't looked back since.

An addendum to the posted article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTV-wwszGw8

Cities aren't loud; motor vehicles are. Tire noise near heavy stroads and highways are in particular egregious offenders. There's a lot of other points in the comments about some other urban nuisances (leaf blowers, anyone?) but I encourage anyone to walk around (yes, walk) while measuring the ambient noise levels with your smartphone's microphone.

It will be extremely obvious where the noise is coming from. This is an often misunderstood part of "the war on cars:" the stress gained from additional constant noise (e.g. like a highway) takes YEARS off our lives.

And don't get me started on how loud shops are in North America. For whatever reason they seem to always keep the volume three or four levels above comfortable, making it much harder to have a conversation without shouting at least a little.

It wasn't until I started traveling a lot that I started to notice any of this. You can have your quiet part of town, but often you get to your quiet part of town by driving through the noisiest part of town where a good number of people live and work.

Add to it the ridiculous sounding honks in trucks and other big vehicles, it really is causing a huge menace. I literally have PTSD for several honks we have over here in India.

Very strange that the Government here that is proud of its Bharat Stage(BS) regulations, does not factor in regulations for honks and the noise pollution that it is causing by and large!

I had to enable it from chrome://flags for it to work. I'm using Chrome unstable, it doesn't appear to be in the stable branch on Linux yet.
ananth99 · 12 years ago
Ohh,I had too many problems with the unstable distribution. I guess I'll wait then for the stable build then. Thanks!
