I had no idea travel was this difficult for people who aren't EU citizens.

Wow, I'm almost annoyed on the authors behalf of how much hoops there are to jump through.

>To apply for British citizenship, you need to prove you were physically in the UK on your application date but five years ago. Not approximately five years, not that week—that exact day when you press "submit" on the form minus five years. Miss it by 24 hours and your application is reject after months of waiting, and you have to pay a hefty fee to re-apply.

That's a hilarious requirement. I wonder how that ended up in there.

I am confused whats British citizenship application to do with his, or any travel at all? That's not what you do regularly, I mean most people do not apply for citizenship in other countries ever in their lives? Or am I missing something?

Yeah, the article is quite good at summarizing some of these issues.

> The convention has been heavily criticized by the tech industry, which has warned that it criminalizes cybersecurity research and exposes companies to legally thorny data requests.

> Human rights groups warned on Friday that it effectively forces member states to create a broad electronic surveillance dragnet that would include crimes that have nothing to do with technology.

> Many expressed concern that the convention will be abused by dictatorships and rogue governments who will deploy it against critics or protesters — even those outside of a regime’s jurisdiction.

> It also creates legal regimes to monitor, store and allow cross-border sharing of information without specific data protections. Access Now’s Raman Jit Singh Chima said the convention effectively justifies “cyber authoritarianism at home and transnational repression across borders.”

> Any countries ratifying the treaty, he added, risks “actively validating cyber authoritarianism and facilitating the global erosion of digital freedoms, choosing procedural consensus over substantive human rights protection.”

Disappointing that EU signed it. I guess they are trying to push chat control by all possible means.

> The U.K. and European Union joined China, Russia, Brazil, Nigeria and dozens of other nations in signing the convention, which lays out new mechanisms for governments to coordinate, build capacity and track those who use technology to commit crimes.

EU will coordinate with Russia on cybercrime?

reolink, also look at the frigate nvr software, they have a list for decent recommendations
aivisol · 5 months ago
Reolink with Synology NAS using their native Surveillance app. All stored locally, no cloud. One issue with Reolink I haven’t solved is that it is unable to detect approaching cars in the night. Departing cars work fine though. Otherwise no complaints.

Whoever is suffering with tinnitus, try this - firmly press on your jaw muscles - if your tinnitus amplifies then it is related to your clenched jaw muscles! A therapy on these muscles will either reduce the tinnitus or will completely make it go away! Wish my doctor told me that years ago instead of doing useless ct scans and hearing checks. Wish you all silent nights!

Can you please tell what kind of therapy you did ?

In the little corner of Europe where I live food became more noticeably expensive with the Ukraine war. Not everything but a number of items. At one point, the price of olive oil was raised because vegetable oil had to be cheaper than olive oil!
aivisol · 8 months ago
Can confirm this. I think it was sunflower oil which went through the roof when war started not vegetable though.

Do these banks not have insurance companies looking at this liability and saying "no you goddamned idiots, we are not covering you."
aivisol · 8 months ago
Here where I live many insurance companies are subsidiaries to the banks.

I mean this is just ... incredible. Are they living on the moon? Many real phishing messages are even more sophisticated than this.

The APU is not on during flight, so not a safety thing. It's just for providing power (and bleed air) on the ground (if there's no other power source). E.g. can't start up at airports without external power with the APU INOP.
