In the little corner of Europe where I live food became more noticeably expensive with the Ukraine war. Not everything but a number of items. At one point, the price of olive oil was raised because vegetable oil had to be cheaper than olive oil!
aivisol · a month ago
Can confirm this. I think it was sunflower oil which went through the roof when war started not vegetable though.

Do these banks not have insurance companies looking at this liability and saying "no you goddamned idiots, we are not covering you."
aivisol · 2 months ago
Here where I live many insurance companies are subsidiaries to the banks.

I mean this is just ... incredible. Are they living on the moon? Many real phishing messages are even more sophisticated than this.

The APU is not on during flight, so not a safety thing. It's just for providing power (and bleed air) on the ground (if there's no other power source). E.g. can't start up at airports without external power with the APU INOP.

If I remember correctly it came very useful during US Airways Flight 1549 accident?

Users report their Garmin devices becoming unusable and the devices getting stuck in a boot loop. This not only seems to impact Forerunner devices. I experienced the same on my Garmin Forerunner 255 when I went running this morning.

There's also Forbes article now but it refers to the Reddit post: https://www.forbes.com/sites/andrewwilliams/2025/01/28/garmi...

yep, happened to my Fenix 7 as well immediately as soon as I activated workout mode (i.e. started GPS).

Ended up with factory reset and restore from Connect App backup.

Unlike the Apple Watch, or Fitbit (Google), the Garmin watches function properly without being tethered to a phone.

You can setup a watch without a phone and without ever activating the online services.

They are here only for backup and additional features like social sharing. You can also backup locally with open source software if you want.

That's why I chose one and it's one of the best products I ever had.

Can confirm, everything runs in the watch, no connection to the app is needed. All your workouts are stored in the watch locally and synced to the Connect App once it is available. I never take my phone with me while doing workouts because its not really needed.

There seems to be an obvious mistake which is that Catalonia is shown as part of Spain.

And Canary Islands as not part of Spain.

Time related:

"Elizabeth Ruth Naomi Belville (5 March 1854 – 7 December 1943), also known as the Greenwich Time Lady, was a businesswoman from London. She, her mother Maria Elizabeth, and her father John Henry, sold people the time. This was done by setting Belville's watch to Greenwich Mean Time, as shown by the Greenwich clock, each day and then "selling" people the time by letting them look at the watch and adjust theirs"

I'm not sure what "Marshall Islands vs Marshall Islands (U.S.)" is supposed to mean. When it seceded from the U.S. it didn't change its name so how would that be visible?

Also Bangladesh seceded from Pakistan, not India and in 1971 not 1972.
