ThrowItAway2Day commented on Ransomware gang threatens to expose police informants if ransom is not paid   therecord.media/ransomwar... · Posted by u/blinding-streak

That has long been suspected. I can't prove it, though I wouldn't be surprised if the big Agencies had proof and no ability to do anything about it.

North Korea conducts low-level cybercrime to fill the state's coffers and geopolitics. They are like vikings; raiding an enemy and stealing all they can while they're there to keep the lights on. Hackers from Russia or China are higher up on the hierarchy of needs and attack targets for geopolitical advantage.

"Rap Feuds" 7.6 GB

"Hate Crimes" 525 KB

Though exposing police informants could lead to their death and obviously shouldn't happen, I'm fairly curious why they're tracking the "MOST VIOLENT PERSON MVP."

On a serious note, I would expect that street beefs (especially ones that spill over to rap diss tracks) are responsible for the largest percentage of urban homicides.

Not to provide facts to counter your generalizations, but...

I was on Parler for several months, trawling it and other sources quite heavily for the last month or so, trying to keep abreast of ... events.

At no time did I see even a single post advocating violent overthrow of the government, white supremacy, etc. Apparently, neither did any of those planning the Capital attack, since they were not Parler members.

So, if you want to deplatform people based on their political leanings, I guess you can go ahead and do that. But, the "reasons" being used to shut down Parler don't seem to be founded in fact.

It happens all the time in the banking arena. Banks are frequently used to deny market access to businesses that are undesirable to the federal government but are otherwise legal businesses.

And why sketchier businesses, such as casinos, had to turn to organized crime for loans and funding.

I wish computer security training included courses on avoiding or destroying the bureaucracy that seems to inevitably form around cybersecurity dogma.

COVID was a lightning rod and channeled a lot of technological advances through that would’ve been otherwise halted by the cyber hand wringers who seem to have infiltrated all approval processes.

I agree that it's unfortunate that security and bureaucracy go hand-in-hand. As security becomes more a priority, the annoying overhead grows with it. However, I think this is just the nature of security. It's a cumbersome task. Think of any organization that security is very important to, especially where it is life and death. Military, government, criminal gangs, VIPs/executives. All have large bureaucracies to maintain and enforce security. I think the adversaries any of these groups face are so persistent and capable that the only answer is bureaucracy. Training the person can only go so far. Individuals alone are too susceptible to minor slips in operational security. If a small company that isn't targeted by advanced persistent threats has such a bureaucracy, it's overkill.

My personal favorite photographer on social media is Nick Carver out of Orange County, CA. He covers similar themes (Americana, forgotten architecture, desert landscapes) all on medium and large format film. He walks through his techniques and is very enjoyable to listen to!

Maybe check out Kyle McDougall, he is a photographer interested in similar themes (decayed motels, cars, ghost towns, etc), but his photographs are much more compelling.

Edit: link to his website https://www.kylemcdougallphoto.com/
