TedShiller commented on World’s largest four-day work week trial finds few are going back   bloomberg.com/news/articl... · Posted by u/SirLJ

I’ve gone down to 4 days, taking Fridays off to look after my son, and I certainly won’t be going back to 5 days until he’s in school. Looking after a toddler all day isn’t exactly a day off, but it is extremely rewarding, and something I’d recommend to any parent thinking about dropping down a day.

It definitely has some downsides however, I’m the only one in the team that’s off that day, so there’s usually meetings and information that I miss out on, as well as a 20% cut in pay, but I’m very lucky to be in a position where we could afford it, and the time with my son is worth it.

I don't see any downside to a 4 day work week. Workers should expect to get paid 4/5 of what they made before, but it could be well worth it.

The launch teams seldom recover their balloons.

reported its last position on Feb. 10 at 38,910 ft. off the west coast of Alaska

Oh neat, I always wanted to be a litterbug and a floating aviation hazard at the same time. If you launch something into the sky, be it a drone or a balloon, you should be responsible for retrieving it.

Exactly. We're worried about plastic pollution in the wilderness unless it's floating in the air, got it.

No, the lack of Lamborghinis isn’t causing problems.

Neither is the lack of luxury housing

S.F. suffers from insufficient housing, calling it a need is just a handy shortcut.
TedShiller · 3 years ago
Do they also suffer from insufficient Lamborghinis?

Vacancy taxes are good but not enough by themselves. S.F. needs more housing, including middle housing, three or four story buildings with multiple units. The market dynamics that apply to shampoo and fridges apply to housing as well. Prices are elevated because of an imbalance between supply and demand. Supply must rise to match demand. Let investors and speculators snatch up new housing units, at least at first. Investors do not have access to unlimited capital. If $100B worth of new housing hit the market overnight, it would be impossible for investors to buy them all. Keep building housing until investors run out of money and normal people can start buying them.

> S.F. needs more housing

Always funny to see this taken at face value. SF doesn’t “need” housing. People want to pay less for housing. Not the same thing at all.

Those bubbles exist because Google follows the international RCS standard and Apple refuses to do so.

Do you want to tell Apple?

edit: lol, guess everyone really loves their status symbols here. Congrats on having your chats be the "right" color!

Apple refuses that in the same way that you refuse to eat moldy food. You like fresh food right?

My understanding is that California is short around a million housing units. Truly a staggering number that will take very long to catch up on. Not sure how many units are being allowed by builder's remedy but it surely isn't the full million.
TedShiller · 3 years ago
It’s not short anything. Other states have housing.
