MitPitt commented on There is no comfortable reading position   slate.com/life/2026/01/bo... · Posted by u/oumua_don17

I solved this for myself when I discovered "prism glasses":

https://www.amazon.com/s?k=prism+glasses

The comfortable reading position is lying on your back on your bed (or long sofa) with a pillow under your head. You're looking upwards at the ceiling while holding the book upright on your belly.

There's even a clip-on version you can attach to existing prescription glasses.

So simple. Zero strain. You look absolutely dumb, of course, but it lets you read until your brain gets tired, not your neck or lower back or whatever.

If you want to go for truly infinite comfort, use an e-reader held upright by a stand sitting on a breakfast tray with legs placed over and around your belly, with a Bluetooth clicker for page turning. At that point, you basically might as well not even have a body...

It increases visual distance to page which strains the eye.

It is most likely something you need to experience in real life in order to appreciate the beauty.

The smell alone must be amazing.

Amber doesn't smell at all. "Amber" scent in perfumery is more like a vibe thing.

It's only a punishment if the bridge falls down. But if someone is making truck drivers drive heavy trucks out onto a bridge to "test" if it will stand up under the load it only seems fair to me that the engineers who designed and built it take the risk alongside them.
MitPitt · 4 months ago
I'm positive those trucks are self driven. There is no need for draconian measures you hoped for. Spaceship engineers aren't forced to go into space.

I hope the engineering team were riding in the trucks.

To punish them for building a cool bridge or?

Cool. Currently on some websites I hit TAB until I reach the needed button/input. Try it right now on hacker news.

These 2 projects are so different in complexity. Ladybird is a foundational ground-up browser, meanwhile Omarchy is just an opinionated arch setup. I wonder why they were both mentioned in one article.

Stylus extension with Catpuccin theme for HN. Stylus has a bunch of other themes available too. For other websites too. IDK if I trust the proxy websites people are posting in other comments. And they're not comfortable to use with RSS feeds.
