God forbid an engineer should have an opinion on UI/UX.

That’s the attitude he’s talking about!

Bootlegging of everything is a huge business.

Back in the 90s Singapore was such a big market for this that it acted as the major driver for motivating globally synchronized releases. i.e. for Reader's Digest magazine* in the US in 1995 if you did not release it on the same day in Singapore it would be easily available in pirated form within days, removing any ability to make money in that market for the legitimate product.

In UK pubs circa 2000 it was notorious that certain people would approach your table to sell you bootleg DVDs, and that if you indulged them you'd then get access to their "special" selection.

* And yes, that example is totally serious.

Sadly, I read about this in 2008 when I was researching an exhibition in the United States and then obviously decided not to go.

Can you tell us more about that?

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in Florida. It looks like they have been working on facial recognition since 2001. This is all I found with a quick search https://nicic.gov/weblink/welcome-interagency-use-facial-rec...

Oh plenty more when you put in the full name. https://search.brave.com/search?q=%22Pinellas+County+Sheriff...

I like this. It reminds me of Snapseed. Feature request if it isn’t too hard, the ability to overlay an image and blend them together.

Nice work.

Couple of issues I had: on mobile (Brave on Android) the touch controls for cropping are very janky. Feels like it steals control each time the picture updates maybe?

It's hard to see the controls under the picture on this small screen. Could you add a control to adjust the size of the controls and shrink the picture maybe?

I’m getting some touch control issues and inability to download the image on iOS.

Interesting read. I was only familiar with a bastardization that goes by the same name. An ex is from Liberia and while her mom now lives in the states she still sends money to contribute to a tontine.

They pool their money together and then rotate who it all goes to every month or some pet period.

Sounds like a scam run on the financially illiterate.

This doesn't make much sense to me. Is there some reason a kid today can't still learn to code? In the contrary, you have LLMs available that can answer your exact personalized questions. It's like having a free tutor. It's easier than it's ever been to learn for free.
GlassOwAter · 10 months ago
I’m approaching middle age and have always wanted to learn to code and run servers, but would get caught up somewhere on tutorials and eventually give up in frustration.

Over the past year I have accomplished so much with the ever patient LLMs as my guide. It has been so much fun too. I imagine there are many others in my shoes and those that want to learn now have a much friendlier experience.
