why is this link doing a redirect through some ad network?
C14L · 6 years ago
Becasue more and more browsers are limiting access to cookies not only depending on first-party context but also third-party context. So tracking users by web bugs becomes less reliable. By redirecting throught the domain, they can set and access cockies in a first-party context.

This is grand, apart from the build quality of the mechanics is ~10 years behind.

Go to a tesla showroom, Look at the doors of the model three. Note that they don't line up.

Look at the paint job, notice that there are bumps and chips, especailly on the edges of the doors. This is on a _demo_ car, stuck in a showroom. these should be perfect.

Even a budget Kia has better build quality than this.

Its not the isolated parts of a car that makes it good, its the whole package. (yes that works both ways. )

C14L · 6 years ago
And yet, Tesla costumers constantly poll as the most satisfied of all new car owners. Maybe there are more important things than bumps in the paint?

Just guessing, I don't own a car.

if anyone is familiar with the chinese electric car scene, then one will know that tesla, america's darling, is not as ahead as people give them credit before. if any of the chinese car manufacturers come to the u.s. and are able to break through stigma, then tesla will be in trouble. neo, byton, weltmeister, byd, and more have serious competitive car offerings. i have ridden in a nio suv, and the quality greatly surpasses that of tesla.
C14L · 6 years ago
Great Wall, Geely and others have tried for many years. The problem isn't "stigma" but simply terrible test results for safety and quality. That's why most Chinese who can affort it buy Western or Japanese cars too.

if you don't have a stable political, judical and economical system how can you have a highly educated population?
C14L · 6 years ago
They don't. That's just one of the things Westerners like to say about poor countries.

Why is there poverty and lack of opportunities if there are lots of highly educated folks? I always believed education is the key to prosperity of a nation.
C14L · 6 years ago
That's just one of the tales of the "aid" industry.

Turns out, the real key is jobs.

But try investing there, and the "aid" people will call you a neo-colonialist.

There's the plenty of places on Earth which are uninhabited due to climate conditions. What makes Mars a better place?
C14L · 6 years ago
If a 100 km asteroid hit earth tomorrow, then all known intelligent life in the universe would cease to exist.

Why not allocate 0.00..001% of our resources to ensure that the only intelligent life we know of in the entire universe, has a life insurence.

It's a pretty well documented fact that people get misquoted all the time by journalists.

Not quite Gell-Mann amnesia, but something close.

I seem to remember a turtleneck guy that got felled by cancer. He was running a fruit company, perhaps there isn't that much money in fruits afterall.

Turtleneck guy would have survived easily. But he started to trink herbal tea to cure his cancer. Surprisingly, it didn't work.

> DER SPIEGEL: Would it make sense to colonize Mars as a Plan B, as planned by Tesla entrepreneur Elon Musk?

It was never a "plan B" against global warming. Its a "plan A" in case of a catastrophic natural event.
