So it’s an e-ink tablet running Android with front lighting but without access to the Play store? I’m not clear what’s so revolutionary about that.
mikhailt · a year ago
It's not an eink tablet, it's a reflective LCD (rLCD).

I saw them say on Twitter it’s much higher refresh rate (60 fps?) than existing e-ink devices, but not sure.

For me a tablet isn't good enough to actually do some work and not small enough to carry them with me everywhere.

A laptop and phone combo seems much better.

I’m waiting for the day I can do real coding work on a tablet.

I’ve had this weird aversion to sitting at a desk for a couple years now. I’m thinking it’s burn out related.

If only someone made a computer you could put on your lap
realityking · a year ago
Doesn’t a Surface fit that requirement?
hiatus · a year ago
Afaik the surface line doesn't stand on their own but with a kickstand, making working on your lap near impossible.

I’ll be interested in seeing how this is different from the offerings from Onyx.
mikhailt · a year ago
Not an eink tablet, it's an rLCD tablet, so it's more like how it is different from the upcoming TCL's NextPaper 3 devices.

NextPaper 3 is still a full color LCD panel that you switch between modes tho.

I don't see any difference. Onyx also has google play store. From the info so far it looks like just another of the bunch.

https://daylightcomputer.com/

They're asking for "Preorder today with a refundable $100 deposit" with this zero-info landing page. Bullish!
