Ask HN: Best Ergonomic Chair?
My desk chair has seen better days. From time to time I get lower back pain. Suggestions?

When I started developing back pain from our office chairs a few years ago (proper ergonomic ones), a colleague let me try a kneeling chair that work had gotten for him but which didn't really work for him. It has been perfect for me and my back pain was gone from first use. Not necessarily because the kneeling position is better, but because the chair is just so easy to switch positions in. I can kneel, put one leg up, put both legs up, even sit on it backwards. I'm very much a fidgeter and I think having a chair that lets me fidget with my position easily has really helped.

When we moved to WFH during the pandemic, the company subsidized some equipment and I ended up getting a different type of kneeling chair from the same brand: this one rocks back and forth and is also great for fidgeting. I now have both chairs in my house and use them interchangeably (with a small preference to the rocking chair these days). It does not magically fix my posture, but I've had no back pain at all since switching.

Both chairs are from Varier (Wing Balans and Variable Balans)

I'm personally suffering from back pain when staying in the same position for prolonged periods of time (working, sitting somewhere, laying down).

Work wise, I've tried many chairs, which evidently were not all the most ergonomic, but what I noticed was that it's mainly caused by weak core/back muscles.

So I just want to mention that an ergonomic chair wouldn't be a solution by itself if you're in the same situation as me, strengthening your core should be a very important thing to take into account as well.

sitting is evil, its not uncommon to get moderately serious chronic injuries by the time coder reaches 35 years. hey, who said coders don't do "back breaking" work? :)

I started to cycle between standing, sitting and laying on a couch with a laptop. works well for me. WFH.

Staying in one position is evil, be that sitting, standing or any other. Cycling between postures is great!

I was looking at the Ergochair Pro from autonomous.ai

Tried Diablo V-Basic from Poland. Altough the back support was nice, my ass hurt. And a pillow simply didn't work on it, so I sold it.

I have the Ergochair 2 from Autonomous and love it, especially for "ass comfort".

I've worked from home for 6 years and it's been the best chair I've had personally.

Can confirm it is pretty good so far. Also eminently affordable, especially since in my region the common refrain of "just get discarded Aeron/HM from Craigslist bro" doesn't apply.
