This is my favorite kind of website. An individual going into depth on a topic they're passionate (in the true sense of the word) about. Another example is Dan's Motorcycle Repair Web page [1]. A collection of such websites would be awesome.

Me too! I'm a big fan of Rob Robinette's guitar amp page [1] for similar reasons

What fraction of external hard disks is still "shuckable" these days? I know the WD Passports aren't. The USB connector is directly on the drive's PCB, no SATA bridge.
zampano · 4 months ago
I think a lot of the larger form-factor/larger capacity models are still shuckable, though sometimes you still have to put kapton tape on one of the pins to allow it to work with a normal machine.

> Figuratively everybody everywhere wants Ozempic

I'm in great shape right now, in the middle of my healthy BMI range, would there be any benefit in using it for me ?

Not that I would, just curious.

zampano · 2 years ago
No, I don't think you'd see much benefit if you're already within a healthy BMI range. Generally, drugs like Ozempic or Wegovy are going to make you feel less hungry and, when you do eat, make you feel full faster. If you struggle maintaining a healthy weight without torturing yourself, or reducing cravings for food/binge eating, it can be great.

Note: I'm not a doctor, just someone who has been prescribed a similar medication.

Stealth Health Startup | Senior Fullstack Engineer (Typescript) | San Francisco, CA (US) | Hybrid on-site schedule (3 days onsite, 2 days remote) | Full-time

We're a seed-stage health tech company with a mission to make the highest quality healthcare accessible to everyone. Starting with chronic health conditions we're building a service that allows patients to manage their holistic care including consulting with multi-disciplinary providers, managing medications, and engaging with a community of patients in similar situations. Based on the past success of our founder as well as our traction, we've attracted a massive seed round ($40m+) from a number of major VC firms to help ensure that we have the time and space to build the right team, company and product for our patients. We're currently operating in stealth mode but have already seen very rapid growth over the past 6 months ($Xm in run rate growing at 20-30% month over month). The team is small (4 engineers + 10 or so ops, biz, clinical team members) but we're looking to bring on another 10 senior engineers by the end of the year to help build the foundational platform for our business.

We build our software using Typescript on the backend and frontend, and utilize technologies like Next.JS, and React on the frontend, and NestJS, Node.js, and Postgresql on the backend. We're currently looking for engineers who feel comfortable working full-stack, but our needs skew more to the backend at the moment. We have an office located in downtown San Francisco a couple of minutes walking distance from Embarcadero Station and we work a hybrid schedule with 3 days in-office and 2 days WFH every week.

If you're interested in having more ownership and responsibility over your systems, and working in a fast-paced, challenging and rewarding environment, please email me at ornellasmike@protonmail.com to chat more about the opportunity.

I personally think all of crypto is a scam but bitcoin, anyone who plays with alt-coins is just trying to get rich quick... You could say the same for bitcoiners, but it I think it's different.

What makes bitcoin different other than it being older than the rest of the pack?
zampano commented on Why is flaking so widespread in San Francisco?   devonzuegel.com/post/why-... · Posted by u/luu

I guess, but I'm just saying walking downtown you just don't see families, kids anywhere...whereas in most other cities you see kids, families, retirees, students, workers, etc in the "public centers" of a city.
zampano · 7 years ago
My experience is only anecdotal, but I think most city centers I've spent much time in (Austin, Houston, Tokyo) haven't had many families around during the work week either. If you go to fisherman's wharf, you'll find it crawling with families (undeniably mostly tourists), and most weekends you'll find Union Square swarmed as well.

Having lived in SF for a few years now I would say it is very unique (not necessarily in good ways).

The weirdest thing about SF is that there are no kids.

That really depends on which part of the city you’re in, my neighborhood is a sea of strollers!
zampano commented on Roadmap to becoming a React developer in 2018   github.com/adam-golab/rea... · Posted by u/onra87

I feel like this does a disservice to a prospective React developer in that, the hard part isn't finding what all the options are for each of these areas, its finding the one to start with. I'd love to see an _opinionated_ roadmap that tells you what to learn and in what order, and then informs you of other options at your disposal.
