Not open source. Even if we accept model weights as source code, which is highly dubious, this clearly violates clauses 5 and 6 of the Open Source Definition. It discriminates between users (clause 5) by refusing to grant any rights to users in the European Union, and it discriminates between uses (clause 6) by requiring agreement to an Acceptable Use Policy.

EDIT: The HN title was changed, which previously made the claim. But as HN user swyx pointed out, Tencent is also claiming this is open source, e.g.: "The currently unveiled Hunyuan-Large (Hunyuan-MoE-A52B) model is the largest open-source Transformer-based MoE model in the industry".

What is the reason for restrictions in the EU? Is it due to some EU regulations?

For whom was in tech during 90s and now in 2020s, what are the differences between Microsoft back then and Apple now in terms of why the regulators are so "soft" against an actor that is overplaying it's hand for consumers?

I was not in tech in that time, but I was cognizant about the fact that entire segments of media and policy makers just dunked on Microsoft due to anti-competitive practices back then, and I recall congressmen and congresswomen, members of DoJ and so on openly talking about break Microsoft in pieces and I wonder why we do not have those conversations today in the biggest markets (China, US and EU)?

Apologies for this, but it's "for who" not "for whom" in your case since it's the subject of the sentence.

On editors. ------------- My favourite user experience is the https://telegra.ph editor.

The https://medium.com editor also has a great writing experience.

These two executed a page editor so well i.e very low cognitive load and intuitive editing. .............................

What is missing? - Organisation of drafts (https://obsidian.md does this best)

- A decent mobile app, desktop app & web app that work well offline (https://obsidian.md also does this well)

- Ability to export to another platform (https://obsidian.md also does this well)

- Collaboration.

- Latex Support

- Mermaid Support

- Support for Idyll

- Support for embedded items i.e interactive charts.

--------------------------------

But here is the kind of platform that is really missing.

If I wanted to start a trade journal, niches news site or publication, digest. Like The Economist, Quanta, Architectural Digest, Deezen.

There is really not "go to" platform that caters for all these needs out of the box.

People often have to struggle with badly done custom solutions.

Why reinvent the wheel? Just put it in substack or whatever and focus on delivering content (your differentiator hopefully)

This isn't a profit endeavour, it's an academic and learning experience.
