What is "development process" ??? What is "business use case" of this tool? Such a big readme and no introduction to why I should be interested in this tool.

We used to have private bridges and private roads, and that was an expensive travel situation for everyone. Now, internet search is kind of like a bridge that leads clients to businesses and Google is deciding on the tolls. Government-controlled Internet search would definitely be horrible. But I'm thinking if there is a path towards more competitiveness in this landscape, maybe the ISPs could somehow provide free search as part of the Internet service fee? Can we have more specialized, niche search engines? Can governments be asked to break up the Google search monopoly?

I don't think having new search engines would be a challenge. The problem is attracting new users and making them realize there is benefit it diversifying what they use. There are already other search engines but the majority still use Google.

If this works as you say in iOS you would be my new hero! Joined the wait list, would be happy to be part of any test you like to run.

It’s wild seeing AIs ace IQ tests so quickly. But those tests already have cultural bias baked in and if the models are also overfitting to them, that’s bias squared. Still, the pace of progress is hard to ignore.

this is great. one suggestion, it would be nice if I can filter based on subscriptions vs. one time payments.

I am big time user of Amazon’s WhisperSync feature. With that feature I can simultaneously read the book and listen to it.

This is especially helpful when you’re on the go but still want to have a visual now and then or highlight text for later.

The problem is that many books don’t offer that feature. There is a built-in read function now in the kindle app, but it’s crap.

So, if you ask me, I’d prefer a good human-written book with an additional AI voice on top to enable that feature for me.

I'm obsessed with "simultaneously read the book and listen to it". Thats why I built WithAudio. You can checkout the demo here: https://desktop.with.audio/reader-demo

I'd love to hear any feedback you have. "prefer a good human-written book with an additional AI voice on top to enable that feature for me" is exactly what I prefer when it comes to reading.

amazing! can't wait to integrate it into https://desktop.with.audio I'm already using KokorosTTS without a GPU. It works fairly well on Apple Silicon.

Foundational tools like this open up the possiblity of one-time payment or even free tools.

Nice!

I'm curious, what on-device text-to-speech engine did you use?
