Lots of misinformation in the comments. I have been part of the ongoing protests. These actions are the ultimatum of a protest movement by Pakistani's from all walks of life which has been going on since April last year. After exhaustion of all legal and political options the government which has been historically a front for the military establishment has arrested the leader and Ex-PM Imran Khan who has organic and authentic support base in all social classes. The people have been fed up with the current economic situation due to continuous military interventions and are on the streets protesting for the Ex-PMs release and elections which are constitutionally over due. Digital media is completely censored and social media is only accessible through VPNs. The US has deep influence on the Pakistani military with officers being trained in the US ,historic ties and also following the same general command structure and SOP. I believe this is why people in the west will not be given the facts on the situation since the US would not want independent political leadership in Pakistan (The only Nuclear Muslim Nation). We are a peaceful and educated people who are protesting for our fundamental rights and rule of law at the moment and I would urge you to refrain from jumping to conclusions and pray for the freedom, life and liberty of the people of Paksitan.

The Human Development Index is another measure that was developed as a result of similar reasoning back in the 90's, specially accounting for such development in the third world.

In my opinion (MSc math, PhD in applied statistics, currently postdoc at epidemiology department), the fundamentals are books like The Elements of Statistical Learning: https://hastie.su.domains/Papers/ESLII.pdf

I feel like the term data science is completely useless. Machine learning is an approach to "do AI" through statistics. Specifically, it is a branch of statistics where the sole focus is on prediction, compared to e.g. inference.

This is exactly how I tend to explain ML/ AI simply to people. Its mostly stats paired up with Linear Algebra, Calculus and Comp Science.

Ha ha, funny joke.

Where are the 100k+ US troops on Ukrainian borders?

vadertemp · 4 years ago
US has not deployed to Ukraine because its not in its national interest whereas Russia does have an immediate security concern with NATO expansion to its borders after the end of the cold war.

US has deployments all over the world after WWII in order to bully and protect its own interests.

I just got done reading Sarah Chayes's excellent book Thieves Of State. She spent significant time working with the USA military in Afghanistan and she devotes substantial time to the idea that the CIA is a rogue agency that often undermines the USA military and undercuts the goals of the USA State Department. Her stories are really shocking, including many months spent setting up a sting to take down a vast network of corruption in Afghanistan, only to have the whole sting sabotaged at the last moment, because it turned out that many of the people who were taking bribes were taking bribes from the CIA, and the CIA had refused to share that information with the USA military. If the subject interests you, I posted a long excerpt here:

Directorate S by Steve Coll is another good read if anyone's interested in reading about the inter agency culture of USA specifically pertaining to the war on terror in Afghanistan.

Have two fixed time slots in a day and check all the apps during that time. Ignore/ Clear any notifications during all other time. Requires some self discipline but limits the usage considerably.
