I don't think ban is the right word for this? The federal government will no longer be funding renewables on farmland which is stupid but not a ban.

This isn't AI damaging anything. This is corporations damaging things. Same as it ever was. No need for scifi non-human persons when legal corporate persons exist. They latch on to whatever big new thing in tech that people don't understand which comes along and brand themselves with it and cause damage trying to make money; even if they mostly fail at it. And for most actual humans they only ever see or interact with the scammy corporation versions of $techthing and so come to believe $techthing = corporate behavior.

And as for denying service and preventing human people from visiting websites: cloudflare does more of that damage in a single day than all these "AI" associated corporations and their crappy crawlers have in years.

Cloudflare exists because people can't be good stewards of the internet.

> This isn't AI damaging anything. This is corporations damaging things

This is the guns don't kill people, people kill people argument. The problem with crawlers is about 10x worse than it was previously because of AI and their hunger for data.

I guess for a lot of users like myself using Notion ship has sailed. Most of them have moved to Obsidian, with the new database feature of Obsidian, and it being free, I do not see why users would choose Notion over Obsidian.
ujkhsjkdhf234 · 5 days ago
You need to get out of your bubble. Notion is so much more popular than Obsidian you cannot imagine. My dentist office uses Notion for example. Migrating out of Notion is also very difficult and for most people it isn't worth the hassle. Obsidian not being web based is also a con not a pro to the average person. The number of people leaving Notion for Obsidian is a rounding error.

I highly recommend Siyuan as an alternative, it has many the best features from obsidian plugins included by default

SiYuan doesn't have canvas. Obsidian Canvas is great for diagrams.

Right-o, so you were not really interested except to argue and misquote me.

You're the one dancing around the topic instead of just stating what you think outright.

You can actually figure the explanations out yourself. Hint 1: employees misbehave. Hint 2: accidents get green lighted for special investigative access.
ujkhsjkdhf234 · 9 days ago
Employees misbehaving or corporate sabotage as you seem to be implying doesn't make it not a Tesla issue. Employees at Tesla misbehaving means that Tesla isn't at fault for any of the issues listed is a ridiculous statement.

> Dependence on foreign power with potentially misaligned goal? Collapse of manufacturing sector, leading to rise in poverty?

Note that this has been the reality of countries in the Third World who aligned themselves with the US, a foreign power whose interests were misaligned with theirs.

The US is now having a taste of their own medicine.

ujkhsjkdhf234 · 9 days ago
Now? The lower and middle class in the US has been dealing with this for decades.

That software reality you describe is not too far off. Not with LLMs alone, but definitely seen the software copy machines accelerate. Any novel idea launched on an app store that sees any traction or attention will be flooded with close imitations in weeks.
ujkhsjkdhf234 · 9 days ago
This was already reality before LLMs. If you put a successful game on any app store, expect Chinese and Korean clones of it within 2 weeks.

To be fair there is a lot of talk about "bringing manufacturing back". IMO what the government is doing in that regard is more than misguided but other efforts exist. I'm optimistic about efforts like https://californiaforever.com/solano-foundry/. Permitting reform is a key piece which they work around, synergy from physical proximity is another. Both are addressed by the Solano Foundry project. One might see US labor cost as a disadvantage but with automation I don't think it matters that much. Jobs have been mostly lost to automation, rather than to China and that so only continue.

California Forever is a weird network state I wouldn't wish to be a part of.
