If you are solo, you would not use Git, which was designed for hundreds of collaborators working on a project.

Instead, a simpler version control system (something like Git?) would suit you better.

No, I definitely still use Git on solo projects, there’s no reason not to do so.

It would be better to just reencode tracks with VBR capped to 224 or 160 max bitrate.

if you had a lossless source then sure, otherwise lossy to lossy transcoding is not great.

I've found the Chef project (https://github.com/chef/chef) to be high quality and easily readable but I've been working with Chef for like 8 years at this point which might be influencing how I view it.

Hashicorp projects also seem very well done too especially given how extensible they are.

Looks just like Powershell.

which interestingly enough can also have things abbreviated, ie Invoke-Web-Request can be used as iwr.

Did they stop including the dongle in the box? I haven’t bought phone in a couple of years so I honestly don’t know.

I can understand the complaint about charging. Although the fanboy answer is of course wireless charging.

twothumbsup · 4 years ago
They stopped including it a while ago, I think they stopped with the XS.

You're not technically stopped, you just have to pay extra money to get an adapter, with the additional downside that you can no longer charge the phone while using those headphones.
twothumbsup · 4 years ago
Or, if you get a wired->BT adapter like the FiiO uBTR, it’s another device you have to remember to keep charged.

(Btw there are 3.5mm to lightning adapters that let you charge while listening, just not made by Apple)

This is just the fundamental nature of human nature. People are hardwired to watch out for the kids in their “tribe”.

Ask yourself how you would respond as a manager, on a gut level to two different scenarios. One is a subordinate comes and says “I need to leave early today, my daughter’s the lead in her school play.” The other says, “I’m gonna dip out mid-afternoon. Tryna make the 4-20 celebration at Mission Dolores later”.

We can argue till we’re blue about whether this is fair or not, or the burden and benefit of making people for the next generation, and entitlement and so on. But at the end of the day, none of it will matter. You can’t change human nature, and people who care for young children will always be given a certain unique level of respect and accommodation in any society. Period.

Cockroach just today launched a free hosted serverless version of the db. Looks generous free tier then reasonable once you outgrow, postgres wire compatible, sign up thru GH https://www.cockroachlabs.com/blog/announcing-cockroachdb-se...

This looks super interesting and basically exactly what I was looking for in a db product, definitely going to be checking this out!

Can you just use a Linode? It’s $5/month. I bought a Linode VM and set up a server and database on it.

Main drawback is efficiency, idk how fast a linode works once you have users. But once you have users if you can make money off them, you can migrate to AWS.

I've heard a lot of good things about Linode over the years, they slipped my mind while thinking of the more manual options. I'll have to check them out!

Seen GAE referenced across several comments and apparently Snapchat started on GAE as well (lol not that this has any chance or even need in the big success case of scaling up so much) so it's definitely something I will look into!
