Maybe I'm out of the loop but I've never heard of "Topton". As this brand is being mentioned 16 times in this one blog post I'm just assuming that's a sponsored blog post and not an objective overview.

Topton makes a lot of those router mini PCs. I have an N100 with 4 2.5Gbe ports. It has a serial port too, which is nice. It's been running great for about a year now. Then again, it's from Aliexpress, so who knows if it's even really a Topton.

I'd never heard of Electrical Discharge Machining. The video is less than two minutes and gives a quick introduction.

Interesting, thanks for posting. I never heard of this either and read EDM as

Which kind of makes sense.

This is really cool. I'm glad people are out there making this stuff even if I'll never have a use for it.

What are the use cases for this? I'm guessing retro computing and possibly very old machines tied to very obsolete hardware that can't be virtualized (e.g. manufacturing controls).

I’m not sure what you’re referencing, but the principal goes back way back to the Romans: Cui bono? [0]

Make Error Messages Great Again

(Sorry, I hate that it has a political reference, but it's really how I feel about this. How the heck is that error message supposed to mean anything to anyone?)

trevithick · 4 months ago
Sometimes the message is different. I think it depends on the recipient server. Trying to scp to a dropbear ssh server on a router gives

   sh: /opt/libexec/sftp-server: not found
   scp: Connection closed
The -O resolution works.

Especially with this bleak described future. Why would I want to be one of the few simulated? I’d rather stay dead.

If you think this may be the future, surely the only rational response is to do everything in your power to prevent it.

Yes. I've always planned to stay dead forever after I die. AI is not changing that.

The bull case is that when the venture capitalists stop subsidising LLM providers and expect them to turn a profit, the actual end-user costs exceeds the cost of employing a human. I don't know whether this is actually true, but it might happen.

True, my question assumed AI "progress" and adoption follow the hype trajectory. Reality could be closer to the scenario you laid out. The bubble pops, some AI tools maybe improve things in some areas, societal disintegration gets kicked down the road a few years.

I have not heard or read anything about AI that could be construed as positive for an ordinary person. Step one is "lose your job with no possibility of finding another one, but still have to buy stuff to survive." That will also be the last step for a huge number of people. Is there a bull case for some hypothetical regular person with a desk job? I haven't seen one.

Not sure if this question will get removed but a tangent nonetheless - I’d like to use this but I don’t know what to do with it since the advent of Discord. What do people do with IRC now and where do you find content?

I remember being a high school student and having an amazing physics conversation on IRC that included a description of Flatworld that really fascinated me.

I had the same question. I briefly joined the Slackware IRC a long, long time ago when I had questions, but now I wouldn't even know what to do with this client.
