…and a huge thanks to @dang as well!
tnsittpsif · 3 years ago
I have seen and read from @dang often throughout my many years of journey with HN, but never got to know who really is @dang.

Is their true identity a secret? If not, can someone please point me out to their real name. I am just curious about their profile and would like to have a look at their LinkedIn or Twitter if they are on there.

I do not wish to pry open anyone's anonymity and so if their identity is a secret, I am fine with that. I honestly just want to have a look at their journey which sometimes LinkedIn / Twitter / GitHub / individual blogs provide.

Welp, don't get me started on the "hai"->"h" contractions! The one that irks me the most is अच्छा (good, pronounced "uh-ch-aah" with a hard and emphasized "ch") is written as "axa" in chats (more popularly written as "achha").
HarshitDoshi · 3 years ago
I am old! "Axa" is seriously everything that is wrong with the way newer generations are using the language with English alphabets! I still cannot believe people do this.

I have personally set a standard or a set of rules for writing Hindi using English alphabets myself and I have seen my friends follow the same. We do not use such shortcuts/shortforms.

Hell, even "Acha" is not the correct way. It must be "Achha" (double Hs).

Speak Hindi all day, but cannot guess a single letter in a 100 tries!

Shows how much this language's usage in writing and reading has declined.

SEEKING FREELANCER * REMOTE

I am building an overview of how to go from "Zero to Web App" via all the popular frameworks out there. Django, Flask, Laravel, Symfony ...

Each framework will be represented as a shell script which turns a fresh Docker image with Debian into a working web app with routing, templates and user accounts.

It is an open source project, but I am happy to pay for the scripts to be written.

If you want to write one of the scripts, hit me up!

I already did the Django one:

https://github.com/no-gravity/web_app_from_scratch

(It has routing and templates. Still needs the user account part)

Loved the concept, but there's too much white-space, lot's of screen real-estate lost.

On my MacBook Pro 16-inches, I can see 12 stories on HS while on HN, I can see 27 at one go.

I am not saying the UI needs to be as dense as it is on `news.ycombinator.com` but it can be much more denser than what it is right now.

Also, +1 for dark mode, although, DarkReader works quite well for now!

The only editor I find on the Windows servers we have at work is npp and the white theme made it very difficult for me to work. I am gonna grab a portable copy of this and take with me on any server now!

Something seems off, am getting a "403 - Forbidden" while visiting the page.

Anybody else get it too or am I the only one?

This is while on Firefox Developer Edition on a Windows 10 PC.
