It’s all about isolation I think

It is a bad idea to use wine in isolation. Even if it comes with bottles

In no particular order:

Marine mammals

Sunsets with no land in sight. Sunsets framing the land. Sunrises with no land in sight. Sunrises framing the land. Thunder and lightning rolling up one side of an island in the distance, putting on a show.

Dark skies and the stars.

The peace and tranquility of quiet places with just nature and you. Until the sod over the hill turns on their generator.

Fresh fish.

The feel of sea spray, wind in the ears, the connection to your boat, knowing if things are right just by the feel and sound.

And that's just from doing non-ocean-crossing sailing.

Yeah, but you mentioned the terrors

What's ineffectual in Proton products? Could you please elaborate, as I'm considering moving to their suite?

Not OP, but think twice. They make it extremely difficult to downgrade/withdraw once you chose a plan. Their hardware is actually not in the Switzerland either.

The ECU is doing that because rapid changes in state are bad for emissions. Letting you just slam the throttle closed could result in a tiny, but measurable at OEM scale, amount of extra fuel going half burnt out the tailpipe. Slamming it open can cause too lean combustion and oxide byproducts which.

The OEMs try real hard to prevent this because the amounts of emissions byproducts that aren't water or C02 they're allowed to produce are on the order of single digit grams per multiple miles (you can mentally file it as "about the baseline air quality in urban areas" though the rules are hugely more complex than that) so these edge cases matter.

An idling I4 has about 10 injection cycles per second. And the ECU clocks injection time corrections at least at that rate, more likely at double that rate or more. So I think that the smoothing is mostly there for the owner's wellbeing, not emissions.

On both my Volvo PHEVs I often look at the brake discs and find them rusty from the amount of regen braking. it almost completely eliminates conventional braking unless it's for collision avoidance.
tkj922 · a month ago
So your primary and emergency brake system elements are rusty and that is now somehow a good thing?

IBM was not able to. Story from a friend-who-claimed-to-be-there:

In days of yore, Visa did processing on IBM iron. The iron in question took a while to boot, and time is very definitely money to Visa and they wanted to speed up reboots (e.g., after a crash). Saving seconds = $$$.

Visa to IBM: "Please give us the source code for the <boot path stuff>, it's costing us money."

IBM: LOL

Visa to some big banks: "Please tell IBM to give us the source code for this, it's costing you money."

IBM, a little later: "Here's a tape. Need any help?"

tkj922 · a month ago
Factually correct, I in fact even was that tape at the time

So funny how people think this is a moral crusade. You should read articles around the tech stack for payment processing at any adult site. People try to do chargebacks all of the time on these kind of services. "Hunny what is this transaction on our account for BigBussomsCom?" .. "Oh must be some kind of fraud" "then let's call the bank and straighten it out". It's variations of this, over and over that lead to the high chargeback rates. I seem to recall that chargebacks are an order of magnitude higher for adult-oriented transactions. Unless you have a system of countering this with a team devoted to it, you will have a lot of successful chargebacks. I doubt Valve has the specialized team needed to deal with the amount of chargebacks, this the CC companies trying to avoid the headache.

Just came here to ask. Is it a norm to not have any personal fund cache while in a relationship? I would not like anyone, spouse included, to question me about my purchases of (redacted), nor would I want to question them on purchases of the newest (redacted) or whatnot. What's the purpose?

Yeah I would really clarify that this is not a "work account" in the way most people would interpret it. I agree OP should be paying for Google Workspace if your income depends on this account.
tkj922 · a month ago
I don't get it. To me it seems that being locked out of a "work" email is far better (far less worse) than being locked out of a "personal life" one, which probably includes stuff like telecom, utility, insurance, social media being tied to that entity. It is easier to get another job than to "recover" all the other aspects of life

Lots of people don't want to talk to strangers. It is socially unacceptable to wear a T-shirt saying "please don't talk to me" - but headphones are socially acceptable.

And yet still, plenty of women report persistent men telling them to remove their headphones so they can engage in unwanted conversation.

The alienation was already there; the headphone just made it more acceptable to signal.

tkj922 · 2 months ago
Why is wearing a tshirt that says "please do not talk to me" socially unacceptable, whereas using headphones is fine? I am genuinely curious

It's open source. Or not depending on any company[1]. The overall malai/kulfi project is quite different than these projects, malai itself can be compared with these two maybe.

[1]: we are built on top of https://www.iroh.computer so their caveats apply, and while we do run a http-over-kulfi over http-over-tcp bridge, you do not have to use it, you can run your own, and soon when kulfi browser is ready, you will not need the bridge. Checkout this work in progress kulfi browser: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qw_GmbtxCHw

Given that I just clicked a link on HN leading to a YT video that has 3 views somehow tells me, that I reached the end of Internet and should revert to watching cats. But I wish you all the best, really
