It's weird to me that we have had cheap and power-efficient gigabit ethernet for almost 20 years and 10 GbE is still not there.

In the 90s/00 we progressed from 10 Mbit/s to 100 Mbit/s and then to 1 Gbit/s in like 5-6 years per step.

i think the main reason is that 99% of users, even most businesses, dont require more than 1Gb... Yea, if you are moving massive amounts of data around, 10Gb is handy, but 99 times out of 10, 1Gb will do. And its a chicken/egg situation. Since most people don't necessarily need it, manufactures wont make them in bulk... With the advent of larger games and faster consoles, maybe going to 10Gb will happen soon...

Is this not the best thing that could happen? Like now its in maintenance, it can be forked without any potential license change in the future, or any new features that are in that license change... This allows anyone to continue working on this, right? Or did i miss something?

There are a million ways this can turn into a fireball, dont' try it, at least don't put it at home.

Don’t try this at home. Try it in someone else’s home first.

A service outage meaning starlink is down globally.

Anecdotally my starlink is using more power currently than usual. And when I first looked at the app it mentioned having gotten a new public IP address.

tiernano · 5 months ago
Yea. Mine is down and listed as heating. And getting a public up, not a cgnatted 100.x.x.x I usually get. Weird...

In my last job, we used a key that was stored on a user machine to sign documents... always wondered if something like PassKeys could replicate that... given documents could potentially need to be signed by multiple users on behalf of an entity, having the cert on a user's drive seemed like a security issue... It was password protected, but still.... Replacing that with PassKeys, and having that stored on a phone or even in something like 1Password would potentially solve some of those issues...Does anyone know if that is possible?

Apple needs to work on how they refresh AirPods. You have this product, now $20 short of the AirPods Pro 2, with the same chip and ANC... It seems there is almost no reason to upgrade.

With ANC is nearly the same price as the AirPods 2 Pro so it makes sense Apple is about to refresh the pros?

tiernano · 6 months ago
Where did you get $20 from? Looking at the Apple site, without ANC they are $129 and with ANC they are $179. The Pro 2 costs $249.... Am I missing something?
