Because they grew up without fathers.

That seems very wrong conclusion. How did you come to that?
throwbadubadu commented on Study of cockatoo Snowball suggests humans aren't the only ones who can dance   news.harvard.edu/gazette/... · Posted by u/wallflower

I was thinking that I have noticed plenty of animals 'dancing' when excited (dogs, giraffes, zebras, and many many others).

So for that, I don't need a 'study' to tell me that dogs are jumping left and right (let's very freely call that 'dancing').

It is amazing and confusing to me, too, everytime again I read something like that, e.g. also for "animals have feelings, empathy" etc... seriously, really? Ask anybody who has a pet or observed animals in freedom for a longer time! How can you assume the opposite to begin with, please?

And it is also so directly obvious for most, in the end they are us... we just have developed recordable speech and have the best "hands" it seems... we are not too far off from "them".

On-topic: Look at this parrot getting the drop better than most ravers there https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8YwaMitT4F/?igsh=Ym5nNW00MDh... :D

100% agree. The article does not seem to be written by someonene who is particularly interested in this subject. The fact that it starts talking about what is IMO the most overrated scene ever, Berlin, says a lot.
throwbadubadu · a year ago
The Berlin scene is partly very touristy, what is also good for the city (and sad to let the clubs go), but please also don't underrate it - there are still so many clubs, you just need to find your more undergroundy experience ;) As a tourist, of course, you are also part of the problem, but also well welcome. Every "hype" is not true and show quickly symptoms, and everything was always better back in time, but there is still a lot of reason for Berlin ;)

One thing I like about Berlin is that some clubs explicitly forbid photos. Staff place stickers on the front and back cameras when you enter. Anyone spotted taking photos is kicked out.
throwbadubadu · a year ago
Definitely, don't know why not more places are like that. The majority if techno clubs does it. There is a reason more clubs are also dark etc.. not only to hide the maybe existing wasted faces, but also to completely let go and dissolve in the music, this is very necessary.

So true:

> People who are really into staying up all night dancing to techno music aren't buying expensive alcoholic drinks, they're buying cheap water to stay hydrated. Many (though by no means all) take drugs, but generally that means one dose of a drug like MDMA at the beginning of the evening.

There is very little money for clubs to make from techno ravers, as they're not typically the ones downing alcohol; I highly doubt one can rave to music till sunrise while continually taking in alcohol at the rate at which your typical alcohol going club-goers would.

throwbadubadu · a year ago
I generally agree, but also disagree. The problem with drugs and people is that they usually overdo everything and dont know their limits. Who figures that out can also have their fun 8+ hours even at age, with a limited amount of alcohol(+weed) consumption at a certain constant level ;)

And then there are also that amazing sober ravers who can do 8-12hrs even without any drug. Shouldn't be underestimated how much some people like the music and their trancy dance therapy. (but yeah, those only also buy water/cola/maté).

> The results were “surprising”, Saadaoui said, and could be the result of a number of negative impacts of driving, such as the stress of continually navigating roads and traffic, the loss of physical activity from not walking anywhere, a reduced engagement with other people and the growing financial burden of owning and maintaining a vehicle.

These results are only surprising for someone living under a rock LOL. Still, they're so carbrained that they will continue to vote against their best interests to continue to have the whole place dominated by cars.

throwbadubadu · a year ago
And even this comment will get a lot of explanations why cars and the infrastructure as it is is absolutely necessary for them. Yes, given your setting you built and the only pov you can imagine! The opposite is easy, fun, and proven in many places to work well and better;)

51 days * 86400 seconds * 1000

=> 4406400000

2^32

=> 4294967296

the coincidence seems unlikely, it's basically ~~5 hours and a half~~ 30 hours of difference if one has a 1-ms counter increment

Not getting it.. yeah the famous 32 bit ms overflow after 49 something days. But why then 51 here? Shouldn't they be required to reboot after 49 days please please? :D

throwbadubadu commented on Why use metaphors in conflicts? Because understanding is remembering in disguise (2009)   westallen.typepad.com/bra... · Posted by u/rzk

I use metaphors far too frequently in spoken conversations, and I have learned that it’s often more effective to cut bait (there’s one!) than to try to transition to a new metaphor mid stream of consciousness.

So they are useful, but I’ve noticed weakness in using them as well.

throwbadubadu · a year ago
Yes.. I agree to the example and reasoning in the article, but on the other hand metaphors can simplify things too much, and even tell lies. E.g. politicians using them is the prime example. Thus, not convinced...
