So creating unsafe software is the new norm?

Yes pretty much. See the Windows 11 security vulnerability chaos going on.

Yeah, this page seems to be not great for beginners and also useless for people with experience.

A 2x 3090 build is okay for inference, but even with nvlink you're a bit handicapped for training. You're much better off with getting a 4090 48GB from China for $2.5k and just using that. Example: https://www.alibaba.com/trade/search?keywords=4090+48gb&pric...

Also, this phrasing is concerning:

> WARNING - these components don't fit if you try to copy this build. The bottom GPU is resting on the Arctic p12 slim fans at the bottom of the case and pushing up on the GPU. Also the top arctic p14 Max fans don't have mounting points for half of their screw holes, and are in place by being very tightly wedged against the motherboard, case, and PSU. Also, there's probably way too much pressure on the pcie cables coming off the gpus when you close the glass.

Simply replacing the 3090's with 4090's would provide a major performance uplift assuming your model fits. (I have rented both 3090 and 4090 systems online for research, this comment is based on my personal experience, it is well worth the price increase and the hourly rate for the inference speed you get)

ROG Zephyrus G14 2025 with the 5070Ti, comes as close to it as is possible imo. If you want more battery life and/or don't want to game then you can literally run it on the 890M and disable the Nvidia GPU, as easy as never installing the driver for it in the first place (I am imagining you as using Linux)....

MacBook Air M4 is sufficient for almost everything (except maybe gaming), but that depends on how much you want to get caught up in Apple's ecosystem.

tacomagick · 8 months ago
I've asked the author if they considered Proart PX13 before, they told me they didn't see it fit due to five reasons including:

-Has an NVIDIA GPU

I'd probably suggest the M4 Macbooks, as there are not many AMD graphics based laptops out there at the moment, and the battery life of an ARM based platform does not seem to be compareable to an x86_64 yet assuming you won't need a x86 processor.

It’s okay, but the cash is pretty tricky to get full value from if you’re not on your toes. It goes through the “Payoneer” service. The Payoneer terms aren’t entirely clear, but seem to imply that you’ll get charged an annual fee after a year if you keep the account open but inactive.

If you want the payment in non-USD, Payoneer takes a 2% cut on conversion fees - I figured I’d take the payment in USD, but neglected to do a full read-through of how the payment would happen - it comes as a wire transfer, and the bank I used has a 15 USD incoming wire transfer, so I got hit with that instead of the 2% conversion fee. (And the payment got blocked until the bank called me to inquire about whether I was expecting a wire transfer.)

I really would have just preferred a physical cheque in USD. (The mechanism with which I’ve received refunds for recalls from other companies that didn’t want to do internationalized payments.)

Not sure if it is different than mine but I use Payoneer to get payments through Fiverr, From my knowledge they don't really hold money but just transfer it to your available card. I have never been hit by a fee for inactive account (i've paused my gigs on Fiverr but not my Payoneer account for more than a year at this point)

The fees are quite real though, before I've moved to using BTC for payments i've been getting around 900~ while when i moved to BTC my payments went up to 1900~ thanks to no wire and skipping Fiverr's and Payoneer's cuts.

You're not testing to tell MS that there's a bug. You're testing to make sure that your software doesn't break on the latest version of Windows.
tacomagick · a year ago
You are actually testing for both, as an insider your feedback is asked every now and then, also you report issues you encounter willingly (Get Help metro app) or unwillingly (System Service/App stopped responding, collecting data and sending it to MS)

you can get that on DuckDuckGo. The main problem with Google is that the search is garbage. Kagi wasn't able to convince me that their better within the free searches (I have an account since 2022). Now that I can't try them anymore, they can't ever convince me they're better - so their pricing model perhaps isn't very smart.
tacomagick · a year ago
People see no tracking and just trust it nowadays? I'd much rather use a public SearX/NG instance than to trust something that claims to have no tracking and isn't open source. Same thing with DuckDuckGo.

Ethnicity is very correlated to skin color and eye shape and many additional properties, so I don't find it surprising.

But I didn't expect sex to be correlated at all, I can't imagine why different sex need a different minor changes in eye design.

tacomagick · a year ago
Existance of the Y chromosome causes a major difference (gender, body shape, hormones etc.) so it's not surprising it causes minor differences too.
