I may be the only one who thought this, but this doesn't seem to be related to the fondly remembered Better Software Magazine: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Better_Software_Magazine

It seems to be socially associated with the Handmade Hero and Jon Blow Jai crowd, which is not so much concerned that their software might be buggy as that it might be lame. They're more concerned about user experience and efficiency than they are about correctness.

This is not at _all_ my interpretation of Casey and JBlow's views. How did you arrive at this conclusion?

> They're more concerned about user experience and efficiency than they are about correctness.

They're definitely very concerned about efficiency, but user experience? Are you referring to DevX? They definitely don't prize any kind of UX above correctness.

With the recent federal block of click to cancel, states implementing this will be the way to go.

> Both bills passed the House with broad bipartisan support. If the legislation is agreed to by the state Senate and signed by Gov Josh Shapiro, Pennsylvania would join several other states that have moved to create such laws over the past year since the FTC began working on its now-defunct rule.

> New York, California, Minnesota, Tennessee, and Virginia have all enacted state-level policies that include provisions similar to Ciresi and Borowski’s bills.

If you live in a state that has not passed such legislation, I would encourage you to hound your reps until they do. 45 states to go.

”Modern ux” can be a very political term on HN.

Yes, uxers have to balance business and user needs. That is the power dynamic of business we live in, it’s not typically the driving force of actual uxers themselves.

At the core the ethos of the human centered design (HCD) is being an advocate for the needs of actual users. Being seen as the ”enemy” on HN feels demoralizing, as a person that sits on both sides of the fence.

I feel gladness about seeing the truth of my experience about this. I would like there to be more camaraderie between uxers and developers, and of course it being a more common scenario to be able to drive a genuinely shared vision also with business leadership.

If you have a source for ”modern ux doctrine”, i’d love to hear about it to have an actual discourse.

What does this mean? It seems that compromising the UX for a "business need" is just lazy user experience design.

- An allergy to complexity

- Appreciation for software craftsmanship and a hunger to constantly learn how to write better software

- Does not follow dogma, but instead understands when to strategically apply or not apply certain processes and tools

- T shaped knowledge graph that's ever growing

- A strong intuition for what actually provides end-user value, but also pays attention to and cares about the finer details that most overlook
