I’m ex Amazon. The company promotes, hires, and fires based on everything _except_ merit. I saw many projects fail due to under qualified teammates and leadership. Amazon is an incredible company but it was only a matter of time till its activism caught up with itself.

Are we not seeing parallels here? No code was touted as a way to eliminate coding altogether. Loved by the business, didn't work in practice. Vibe coding; a way to eliminate (maybe reduce). I see the pitch, but the jury is out on how it will work in practice.

I'm jealous of you. I've got a limited number of family members and friends and find it difficult to get more of either. I don't think I'm in a position to burn them on politics so I'll just have to take them as they are.

Wow. This is well put. Thanks. I wonder how those so quick to write others off will reflect on it at the end of life.

Agree, there are bound to be some logistical issues during RTO and they will eventually sort themselves out. The article is grasping at straws. Do I really think asking government employees to work out of an office is unreasonable? No.

I come from a blue collar family and was one of the first to take a white collar job in 2007. I planned on making a long term commitment to my first employer, but spent 6 years fighting tooth and nail for more responsibility and money.

Eventually I had enough and tried jumping into contracting (but ended up in consulting). At this point my career and pay went through the roof. I'm making (literally) twice as much money now, and finally achieved the title I was after.

Most of the companies I've worked at don't value the domain knowledge their current work force has. They waste time and money taking risks on new resources like myself.

I don't feel I'm personally a bad investment, but if companies we're willing to prioritize their current work force, I wouldn't have to bounce around employers to get where I feel I'm best utilized.
