I suspect that in some places they might start requiring ID when purchasing large volumes of storage.

"Only a criminal would need 10 terabytes of storage!"

Something stupid like that.

It sounds just as unfair as including a levy on blank CDs paid to music copyright holders, regardless of how the CDs are used. But being unfair doesn't mean it can't happen in your country.

I just refuse to accept that the first phablet I ever saw, the Galaxy Note, which covered the person's face and looked absolutely comical in their hands, was smaller than my current, very regular-sized phone.
sockbot · 2 months ago
That's because it's not smaller, it has a larger front face area and volume.

You have to accept Apple's licensing agreement as part of downloading XCode to run this tool (which relies on XCode's SDKs etc).

Quoting from the license agreement:

> You may not use the Apple Software, Apple Certificates, or any Services provided hereunder for any purpose not expressly permitted by this Agreement, including any applicable Attachments and Schedules. You agree not to install, use or run the Apple SDKs on any non-Apple-branded computer, and not to install, use or run iOS, iPadOS, macOS, tvOS, visionOS, watchOS, and Provisioning Profiles on or in connection with devices other than Apple-branded products, or to enable others to do so.

Both xtool itself, and anyone who uses it, is violating this license agreement, and apple has shown itself in the past to be a real ass about this sort of thing.

I think this can fly under the radar as long as no one uses it, but as soon as people actually start using this tool in any significant amount, I wouldn't be surprised if apple comes for it.

What would it take for something like this to output eDP over one of the USB C ports? What are the design and hardware requirements?

If your computer is still doing bursty jobs during that period, it will use less power but still as much energy. Sure, you can reduce the power but if you aren't also reducing what you ask it to do, it'll just use that max amount of allowed power for a longer period of time.

Technology Connections just did a timely video on the very topic of power vs energy.

Are you sure it's true that the pandemic increased economic inequality?

The humans worst hit were by far the elderly, and the elderly tend to have more assets than the young in industrialized countries.

Among working-age people, lower-paid "essential" workers were exposed to more risk, but by a significant margin, old people are the ones who died more.

sockbot · 6 months ago
Individual old people may have died more, but we are talking about economic inequality. They had huge gains in their wealth due to asset inflation. Working people were by far the worst hit by the devaluation of their labour.

I love this concept of taking a game, making one rule change, and suddenly the game has a whole new feeling to it.

This may be old news for some but I just discovered this rule that makes tic tac toe incredibly fun to play with my kids: only the last three moves of each player stay on the board.

I have a Framework 13 and I've found that it's fairly finicky about what power sources it will accept. Anything 60W and higher seems to mostly work, but lower wattage chargers are much more dicey.

The one trick I've heard works (but haven't tried) is to "kick start" it by connecting two chargers, one with higher wattage and one with lower, then giving it a minute to begin charging, then disconnecting the higher-powered one. Apparently that's enough to get it past the initial issue and then it will continue charging (more slowly) from the lower wattage charger.

There was a firmware update a while back that was supposed to improve things, but it didn't change the behavior with my 27W charger.

As another data point, the firmware update fixed everything for me and I have no problems charging my Framework 13 from my 18w Pixel charger or 20w iPad charger.

I use split keyboards and finding a mechanical split keyboard without the ortho linear configuration seem to be hard. I just want a mechanical split keyboard with hot swappable keys with staggered (normal) keyboard.

Kinesis makes regular layout split keyboards.
