Here's the one I use a lot ... And the underlying `glamour` library is great for programmatic markdown display: https://github.com/charmbracelet/glow.

> Then again, if this is the case, why would you risk your own reputation to vouch for anyone anyway.

Good reason to be careful. Maybe there's a bit of an upside to: if you vouch for someone who does good work, then you get a little boost too. It's how personal relationships work anyway.

I'm pretty skeptical of all things cryptocurrency, but I've wondered if something like this would be an actually good use case of blockchain tech…

Look at ERC-8004

Just because the hooks have the label "pre-commit" doesn't mean you have to run them before committing :).

I, too, want checks per change in jj -- but (in part because I need to work with people who are still using git) I need to still be able to use the same checks even if I'm not running them at the same point in the commit cycle.

So I have an alias, `jj pre-commit`, that I run when I want to validate my commits. And another, `jj pre-commit-branch`, that runs on a well-defined set of commits relative to @. They do use `pre-commit` internally, so I'm staying compatible with git users' use of the `pre-commit` tool.

What I can't yet do is run the checks in the background or store the check status in jj's data store. I do store the tree-ish of passing checks though, so it's really quick to re-run.

My agents gave to run pre-commit before calling a coding tag done. In this case, it's just a robust set of checks.

I designed a security dongle a long time ago ... Used properly, it did rotations and XORs like a CRC. You could definitely make it hard to defeat but it was still ultimately deterministic.

This ship has sailed.

It's how it was with the internet. I grew up in the 90s, and teacher didn't know how to deal with the fact we no longer had to go through multiple books in the library to get the information they needed. We barely needed to write it.

Now nobody expects students to not use the internet. Same here: teachers must accept that AI can and will write papers and answer questions / do homework. How you test student must be reinvented.

When I was in high school, we were not allowed to use calculator for most science classes ... And certainly not for math class. I'm ten years, will you want to hire a student who is coming out of college without considerable experience and practice with AI?

This is a pretty clear emergent pattern. An OSS alternative is https://github.com/Dicklesworthstone/mcp_agent_mail.

You can run zoom in the browser. At least you could some years ago. Encryption is relevant depending on what you're doing but not everything needs to be super secret. A common practice is to email or use secure file shares while on the call to maintain that security.
smoyer · 20 days ago
You can also install and run Zoom in FlatPak which secures your computer by running the executable in BubbleWrap. If you know what you're doing, you can also sandbox it directly.

When Zoom took the world by storm due to the pandemic, they're security was known to be horrible. They aquihired the keybase team who are crypto experts and this presumably had some measure of positive effect.

I agree that this probably isn't in their own interests but "because I refuse to do business with a company that takes its customers for granted" should be heavily qualified. My power company is taking advantage of me but so far I haven't had the nerve to fire them.

I'm a happily-married father of four who also happens to love computers, software and programming. I do that for a living but it doesn't really feel like work most of the time.
