sleepytimetea commented on US signals intention to rethink job H-1B lottery   theregister.com/2025/07/2... · Posted by u/rntn

I got rejected from the lottery once! It was a while ago, at that time I had about 40% chance to "win" it.

I suppose folks from India and China make up the bulk of the applicants, and a high percentage of the people who end up getting the visas.

My life could have been completely different if I did get an H-1B. Oh for the path not taken.

I hope there is someone who received it in my stead, who now is wonderfully happy and successful in the US.

I know someone who didn't get the lottery for 3 consecutive years.

If the important thing is "with code" then show me the code.

I gave up hunting through your website because I never managed to find an example of what the code for a real circuit looks like. That should be front and center on the first page.

I agree - we need a large example not the toy examples of NeoPixels chained together. Also, in the Github module library, I found only ESP32-C3 modules but the hobbyists use ESP8266 and ESP32 and ESP12-E as well as STM dev modules...I suppose its one of those things where contributors will help populate the library but I don't see instructions on how to build all the artifacts I see in the library - there are atleast 12 artifacts for each module...

When you run out of ideas, build a browser. And when you run out of principles, make it proprietary.

Tesla panels and total price after installation is too high to be competitive- only the Powerwall enthusiasts buy panels+powerwalls from tesla. Other panels are so cheap these days and EG4 makes excellent power storage options.

I liked the photo that one of the quoted seismologists, Zhigang Peng from Atlanta, supplied to the author of this article - which depicts the seismologist standing in front of a sign marking the San Andreas fault on a visit to California. Its just the kind of photo a visiting seismotourist would take !

Does google takeout not work? I’ve been intending to help my partner move off of Google Photos and takeout is what I had planned.

I once waited 20 mins in the Walmart camping section for an associate to come and open the propane gas cylinders cabinet. I noticed other people in other aisles also waiting for locked up items.

I left and went to Target where I was able to grab all the camping supplies I wanted from the shelves and checkout. I avoid Walmart since that day, as almost everything is locked up.
