Like other tech disrupted crafts before this, think furniture making or farming, that's how it goes. From hand-made craft, to mass production factories (last couple of decades) to fully automated production.

The craft was dying long before LLMs. Started in dotcom, ZIRP added some beatings, then LLMs are finishing the job.

This is fine, because like in furniture making, the true craftsmen will be even more valuable (overseeing farm automation, high end handmade furniture, small organic farms), and the factory worker masses (ZIRP enabled tech workers) will move on to more fulfulling work.

Where do people find this optimism? I reckon when the software jobs fall everything else will follow shortly too. That's just the first target because it's what we know and the manual stuff is a little harder for now. The "good news" is everyone might be in the same boat so the system will have to adapt,

Wouldn't such a rumour make people think that if they brought Tesla shares, they could get a share of SpaceX if they merge, given their public stock and the later two are not.

So such reports, in such situations, will be interesting if it has an impact on Tesla shares. Which could trigger an investigation.

Nothing will happen. He got off with nothing for directly saying from his own account "Funding secured" on Twitter in a much less nakedly corrupt environment

Any word on what Optimus might be able to do, or what it would be priced at?
sidibe · 12 days ago
I listened to the call:

The capabilities will be "orders of magnitude" and "end of this year." The timeline is "there is no competition outside of China".

They are more amazing every quarter and so is Tesla's ability to rapidly produce them in the future.

I am a huge Tchaikovsky fan, mostly as I love his hard sci fi and incredible world building. I normally shy away from any fantasy but his city of last chances trilogy (now turning into a quadrilogy/on its was to 5??) is one of the absurdist Pythonesque and actually funny series I’ve read in years (although the first one is legitimately hard to parse/read given the style). Still, the juice is worth the squeeze and the second in the series I found hilarious.

I really love this series, probably my favorite of his stuff along with Cage of Souls. I got a little bored with the first one but glad I kept on, the second and third were amazing.

I almost like everything he writes which is something because there's a ton of it and it's all over the place. Only ones I've DNFd are the Shards of Earth which is weird because I normally like space opera.

As a casual follower of economic news and completely ignorant of politics, my guess is that the administration believes the fed isn't acting according to mandate of stability and jobs. I have no clue how valid that is

Trump thinks lowering the interest rates means market goes up before election. That's all there is to it everyone knows it's not about stability and jobs

You believe Musk is unpopular with conservatives in the EU?
sidibe · a month ago
Overall he is very unpopular. There are a few far right parties that love him but they are outnumbered.

Musk and JD Vance are not "extremely unpopular in the EU", they are primarily unpopular with progressives, regardless of the location.

It sounds like you're just upset the Cloudflare CEO sides with conservatives on this particular issue.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but they are, in fact, extremely unpopular in EU

> Because it’s meant to inflame the population into reacting, further justifying the oppression.

You only need to justify the oppression if there is meaningful constraint on it without further justification.

> You’re right in that there’s no legal need for it,

No, I didn't say anything about legal need. What I am said is that there is no practical need because the actions are already far beyond what the law allows and there is nothing, whether through legal institutions, popular resistance, or otherwise, that is meaningfully constraining action, so a formal act that would relieve legal constraints is practically meaningless, because the legal constraints which it relieves have no practical force as it is.

I’m saying that will-he-won’t-he about invoking the Insurrection Act, or “declaring martial law”, or any other formal change of legal regime are, at this point, serving as a distraction from the fact that the executive’s substantive actions are not actually constrained by the nominal legal regime, and that changes in what is formally allowed do not matter very much when what is being done without meaningful resistance is already well outside of what is formally allowed.

There's some GOP legislators it probably makes quietly uncomfortable to see ICE blatantly murdering people on their watch, they could sleep easier with Insurrection Act

I typically post right leaning - she was trying to run away not kill the ICE officer.

What I think needs to happen, investigation. Most likely the ICE officer will still be released because he'll testify he thought he was going to be killed. He will likely no longer be part of ICE in a few hours.

The poor hero is recovering at the hospital right now after being run over according to the president. He may or may not get off by the courts, but he will be feted by MAGA. If he's removed from ICE it'll be to go on a media tour.
