Without 230 you wouldn't be able to comment anywhere on the net. Where all content has to be reviewed and accepted. I don't see how this is going to reduce censorship. If anything it helps big content companies silence opinion.

Without 230, Businesses would use decentralised tech to process comments if they feel comments are integral part of their business model.

There are plenty aircraft models like B-2 Spirit, F-22 Raptor etc. that cost above $200 million.

I think that people are increasingly getting stuck in their own filter bubbles. This leads to people drifting apart over time and into extremes. This is because there is no cohesive force getting them to think together anymore.

One proposed solution is to simply filter the more 'extreme' standpoints out of the dialogue. Hence censorship.

But I don't think that filtering and moderation are going to help much if people still stay isolated in their bubbles. All you're doing is superficially fighting symptoms; but the root cause remains.

People are stuck in bubbles created by companies. If recommendation algorithms were developed to recommend videos that tell contrary perspective or didn't recommend similar videos and fill My Feeds with similar videos, no individual would have being in the bubble in first place in best scenario or at worst in some private forum like he/she used to in early days of internet. Instead people have started allowing companies to create bubbles and censor them too and now they are rationalising the power they gave to corporates.

While I fully share your concern, it is worth noting that no Tesla so far has been stolen using techniques like this one. But many cars have been stolen just by tampering with the lock.

As a nascent technology for cars as is this one, it is expected to have some flaws. I imagine that when locks were designed they were not the securest thing in world to protect your stuff.

Of course we can do better in terms of security, there is always room to improve. It looks like there is a great flaw here that could get a fix, but I would not dismiss this technology just because of this.

Where there is a lock there will always be a key.

shi314 · 5 years ago
As cars become more like IoT devices on wheels, these nascent technologies would lead to more security issues than a simple key lock mechanism. Just imagine getting locked into a car with glass you can't break (like in cybertruck) and getting asked to pay a ransom to get it unlocked.

Yup. People in the West don't understand how much of an advantage social media has been in countries where media was always controlled by corrupt businessmen or politicians.

The fact that information about government's actions can spread to a large number of people, without any control from authorities is a first time in history for many. Organising protests without government censorship. Publishing investigations. Alerting the entire country to corruption as it happens.

It's really life-changing and unfortunately I don't think it will last. It's already routine when civil unrest happens to shut down internet. Facebook is a good one to censor but other networks take its place so creating Great Firewalls is next for many (somewhat rich) governments.

It has also caused massacres in these countries like in case of Myanmar.

Facebook is an effective media outlet in cases where country are too poor to bribe Facebook and too small for Facebook to ignore market altogether.

> Europeans will be upset.

To an extent, they are. But most of the conversation here seems to be about refugees and asylum seekers rather than legal immigrants. It helps that I'm more than willing to adopt the European way of life: fashion, food, work-life balance and all the rest of it.

As to your first point, that was the crux of my post. I no longer care (nor am offended by, mind you!) whether you judge me or not. I know how much vitriol coursed through my veins every day I was in Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi etc. And I know how much more at peace I am in France. I am a better human because of it; kinder, more useful to society etc. I would not trade any of it for more abstract notions of whether Europeans as a whole will be upset by the wider trends.

I don't want to sound rude but mob doesn't differentiate between refugees and legal immigrants.
