Finally!! I never liked CocoaPods due to how it “takes over” your Xcode project. I used to prefer Carthage, then just git submodules, then SPM. In my last job I oversaw SDK development and CocoaPods was the bain of my existence. Constant CDN problems causing release delays, annoying extra file in Ruby to maintain, different behavior than our other releases due to how CocoaPods builds projects, etc. SPM was as simple as pushing a git tag and maintaining a simple Swift file, while pushing to CocoaPods was rolling the dice how many times I’d get an error message. Good riddance!

It was a product of it’s time, it highlighted an issue that apple never really addressed, i have much more confidence in the future of SPM because at least it seems to be moving in tandem with Swift

This is really sad, because the replacement, Swift Package Manager, is really crap: it lacks some useful features (an "outdated" command, meaningful commandline output, ...), is buggy as hell in xcode (most of the time xcode just crashes when you add/removed a dependency, error messages while getting a repository are not understandable and even often not visible entirely, many repositories have some old Package.swift that current developer tools won't read, ...), and worst of all, it stores the full repositories of all the dependencies with their full history on your machine and downloads them every time when you do CI properly, which often means GBs of data.

Yeah, no, cocoapods was a nightmare compared to SPM, every ios update supplied a new unsolved issue in one pod or another that required dark incantations.

Managing a local pods caused issues so great engineers quit

>Editorial Note: I am a lifelong conservative Republican, ordained minister for 20+ years, voted for Trump twice. I'm not a Democrat or Liberal—I'm an American who remembers when we fought fascism. If I can see what he's doing, why can't you?

If you saw Trump's first term, saw the January 6 attack, saw the Project 2025 manifesto, and voted for him again, don't come looking for sympathy about fascism. The signs were all there and you voted for him a second time. This is on you, author of the article.

.....god, it keeps going. All of these signs were known well before you voted for him a second time.

>How can rational people reconcile supporting a leader who has been accused of sexual misconduct by dozens of women, paid millions in civil settlements, built his fortune on casinos, and demonstrated a consistent pattern of dishonesty and cruelty?

I thought he bankrupted the casinos, he just inherited daddies money + real estate through an elaborate tax avoidance scheme.

That seems very subjective, i’m more of the opinion clothes are far more practical nowadays, who wants to wear a suit in summer? It’s just not sensible

I started working at eighteen, tbh I had lost my way schoolwise, but i had always been interested in computer graphics, CAD and was savvy enough to get my hands on software i perhaps could not have afforded that gave me some base skills that led from one job to another,

Sometimes i feel like working with CS people, and i’ve worked with some really good ones, so please don’t get me wrong, but sometimes i feel some have just done it because it’s a good career, and show zero interest or curiosity past their immediate positions.

secretsatan commented on Iceland approved 4-day workweek in 2019; six years later, predictions came true   farmingdale-observer.com/... · Posted by u/robtherobber

> Today, almost 90% of Icelandic workers benefit from a reduced working week of 36 hours, compared with 40 hours previously, with no loss of pay.

> Unlike some countries, such as Belgium, where the four-day week means that hours not worked are compensated for by longer working days

40 hours/5 days = 8 hours per day

36 hours/4 days = 9 hours per day

The Icelandic workday increased from 8 to 9 hours, a 12½% increase. That sure looks like hours not worked being compensated for by longer working days.

That's a bit pedantic, trying to describe an overall decrease as an increase takes a real stretch

Maybe I'm the crazy one, but I personally consider any group that worships nazis to be an extremist group. If they were in the US and hadn't done any kind of "extremist act" I would feel the same way.
secretsatan · 6 months ago
Ukrainian Nazi groups apparently always had problems making connections with other Nazi groups because they were all pro-russia
