Hiring people based on charisma and ability to charm within short video clips might make sense if the position involves performing, recording videos, or pitching to people.

However, this seems like a step backwards in an era where savvy companies are going out of their way to avoid any appearance of hiring bias. When companies are going so far as to strip names from resumes, asking candidates to perform on video doesn’t sound like a good idea.

Or, they are just looking for people who are comfortable in front of a camera, have some editing skills, and know how to make an interesting <1 minute video - which is a pretty desirable skill depending on who you ask.

Expected a github repo link but instead it's closed source and it costs $9 and it apparently doesn't even allow you to set the noise cancellation level. So it's $9 for an app that has two buttons that send bluetooth packets and it also reads the battery level in some clearly standard way because Android and iOS both show that natively. There's probably less than a screen worth of code.

edit: looking at the tweet[1] it's an electron app... An electron mac app for $9. Let that sink in.

Who cares how it's built if it solves a problem for people?

This is just plain incorrect. Every cryptocurrency's rules can be changed via hard fork. Bitcoin doesn't have any magic property that guarantees there won't be a hard fork affecting the emission schedule.

Bitcoin's "magic property" is the faith that the miners have. It has been hardforked, but the majority of computing power has chosen to stay on Bitcoin.

i dont mean to be condescending, but how could they implement privacy without centralizing? like the bitcoin card provide must hold all your assets for you for you to gain privacy, no?
seanyesmunt · 5 years ago
I believe they were talking about Bitcoin wallets, not card providers.

Shameless plug: My friend and I are building a federated commenting system on top of Matrix if anyone is interested. You control the data, your users choose where they want to be signed up, and the system will not disappear overnight because a company decides to discontinue it. And of course there are no trackers/pixels.

This is a hobby project that we're launching in three weeks. If you are interested, come talk to us on matrix (https://matrix.to/#/#cactus:bordum.dk) or keep an eye on our (for now dummy-) landing page: https://cactus.chat/, https://gitlab.com/cactus-comments

When I click the cactus.chat link I get an "Ethereum Phishing Detection" message.

That is how r/wallstreetbets users refer to themselves.

The next to last was the most interesting to me... it's gotta be an old April Fools in the NSA Technical Journal. It flatly states we've received signals from outer space, and posits a decoding of them....

Why do you think it is an April Fools prank?

Reminds me of all the libertarians who flocked to Bitcoin because it was considered a way to circumvent the government, and then realized that a) you need governments to run the pipes, b) much of the mining is done by conglomerates and c) the unregulated market is about as stable as a ship at sea
