Is this what happens with Call of Duty? My observation is I would play very good for a couple of days, often 1st or 2nd player in the 12 people group. Then, next few days I am placed with a bunched of assumed cheaters (seemingly seeing thru wall, headshot but not dead, jump slide then shoot mid air with a gamepad...).

Activision CoD uses EOMM, engagement optimized match making. They’re optimizing for your to stay on, much like a gambler playing slots. You allow one win where the player is matched with lesser opponents, and then the next X games, you’re the lesser opponent.

It’s all tuned to keep you playing and want that dopamine hit of a win that’s always just around the corner.

I'm generally intolerant of the intolerant, religion doesn't get a pass for being religion.

You have to wonder what it is with companies having “monster” in their names that makes them such monsters.

This story reminded me of the multi-year battle by Monster energy going after MonsterFishKeepers.com

We're still working on answering that but we want the user experience to be something that we really like using ourselves. That means that the website will remain ad-free, we won't send email marketing spam and we won't sell user data to advertisers.

Some options we're considering:

1. Offering premium plans that allow tracking more products with more frequent updates.

2. Allow users to opt-in for offers on the specific products they're already tracking.

We're still not sure if we've found product market fit with this idea so we're staying open-minded and trying to avoid getting too attached to any specific monetization tactic.

3. Affiliate programs with online retailers?

After looking at doing something similar, that was the only monetization angle I could find.

schumpeter commented on Japan's clothes-drying bathrooms   bloomberg.com/news/articl... · Posted by u/Luc

I also live in Japan. Here people bathe in the evening, while I'm finding it hard to shake my habit of taking a morning shower (spend the whole day dirty? ick).

This means if it's raining, we'll have clothes drying in the bathroom, which I'll then need to move out to take a shower. Whether it makes sense to then put them back in to the now wet bathroom with the dryer running I'm not sure.

I find this interesting… I grew up in a Latin family and learned to shower at night. I rationalized it as, not going to bed dirty, and you aren’t going to get dirtier just sleeping anyway.

And the stockpiles of artillery, long-range munitions, armor, ammo, guns, etc sent?

The US really can't win. If we didn't support Ukraine we would be blasted. If we do it's because we are just trying to enrich ourselves.

schumpeter · 2 years ago
Because the only winning move it not to play. This is Europe's war. Not sure why the US is involved at all. It's not like Ukraine has oil or a NATO partner.

They’re boycotting business for complying with government regulations. It’s petty and it’s stupid.
schumpeter · 2 years ago
Would you have felt that way when people were boycotting buses in the Jim Crow south?

Dead Comment
