This is a core concept of Buddhism, called tanha, and has been contemplated for a couple thousand years at least: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ta%E1%B9%87h%C4%81

Doesn’t “tanha” mean “by yourself” in Hindi?

A great book, but I read it too late, after I had already learned pretty much everything it says the hard way. So it was one of those books I enjoyed because it reinforced what I already thought, but didn't really get much from. Wish it had been written a decade earlier.

I'd say learning things on your own, even if they take time, is still better as you don't have to actively force yourself to develop that mindset. We often rush towards our goal without realizing how important the journey (small steps) is. Isn't reaching the goal more worthwhile if you have enjoyed the journey along the way? Isn't that what it means to be human?

Microsoft has gone so deep down the gutter, it is almost unbelievable. I am waiting for the day their profits start taking a hit due to a collective boycott.

Not related to this directly, but shadcn drawer is built on the top of vaul which is unmintained, so who ever use this in production, keep this in your mind.

Gotta love the JS ecosystem where devs move faster than users.

Ehh, not interested in HK or similar games with such a high difficulty bar. Life is too short to be playing games that are not fun to play (for me).

The fact that Vim has been debated for decades is proof that it’s one of the greatest pieces of software.

For me, it is close to perfect.

It might just be me, as I don't use a Mac, but there is something inherently beautiful in terms of design of Mac applications. Something simple yet elegant. I highly assume that it is driven bei the OS (or the company behind it). Sometimes, I wish that Windows applications would share the same design philosophy.
rochak · 4 months ago
That’s one of my many reasons for sticking with Mac. I know the bar is higher and I just enjoy the consistency between first party and third party applications.
rochak commented on “Dynamic programming” is not referring to “computer programming”   vidarholen.net/contents/b... · Posted by u/r4um
IshKebab · 5 months ago
Possibly the worst named thing in computing? Not only is "programming" not referring to programming, but "dynamic" is meaningless and just there to try to make it sound fancy.

I prefer "cached recursion".

rochak · 5 months ago
Yup. I don’t mind it though as this field is riddled with names that convey absolutely nothing about the actual thing.
