Well my rent is only £600/month which helps a lot. It's in a less popular neighbourhood, but it's still in Zone 2 with good transport links and it's very nice.

Do you live alone or with other people and you split the rent? How much do you pay for council tax and bills? 600 is very cheap in London.

This is very impressive and difficult to maintain in London. Rent for a "double" room - meaning a room in a flat/apartment or house that fits a US full or European double bed is like 900/month right now. Spending only 1200/month is very difficult to achieve. I have no idea how this is feasible. To add to rent, local stores are usually more expensive than the supermarkets.

Maybe you ought to make a masterclass on this topic.

If you took out mortgage when interest rates were really low, it’s possible to have your own place and spend about that much per month if you live frugally (well at least until you need to remortgage in few years and rates might be much higher). If you are renting though I also finding it difficult to believe. I was spending around 1600 pounds per month and I was living very modest live, spending little and trying to save as much of my income as I could.

The restaurants are there and successful because of the density, though. The falafel shop around the corner from three multi-storey office buildings can't afford to have a location in every suburb that formerly sent workers to the business district.

There's existing evidence for this: how many restaurants do you see in standalone office parks? A few perhaps, but nothing like what's downtown.

So more small businesses by people living in the area would be encouraged (think small mom-and-pop shops) rather than multinational chain restaurants. It’s a good thing.

Is there anything happen to Karpeles for what he did with mtgox?

He was in a custody for about a year, he was later sentenced to a suspended year in prison. He still lives in Tokyo, no idea what he does for work now though.

Pretty sure Binance was the first exchange to socialize the losses of a hack into an aidropped token to all users - which then allowed users of the exchange to gamble on the future on whether or not they’d be made whole.

Feels like the origin story of BNB chain to me

That was Bitfinex as far as I remember, exchange based in Hong Kong. They are the guys behind Tether which also many people think is not backed up by real assets.

My guess it's a game against inflation. People understand they're getting paid less for their hard work, and not motivated enough to work harder every day. For comparison, I'm spending x1.5 more on groceries than 1 year ago. Some items even x2 more expensive, comparing to last year.

Salaries aren't growing that fast.

Personally, I love what do, and this fact didn't affect the ability to work. However, I can imagine some people can get seriously affected by that.

Could be a factor at tech companies where lot of compensation is in a form of equity options. Especially smaller / medium sized tech companies have had their stocks go down by 50-80% in some cases. So now you’re earning much less than you thought you did plus inflation is out of control further reducing your real income.

As an owner of a couple of companies, I get almost constant unsolicited spam, SMS, and calls.

I generally ignore most. Occasionally, if I feel confident it will be honored, I unsub.

I just feel that it is corrosive, professionally, to complain about/attack others in a professional fora.

For example, LinkedIn often has stuff posted that could be used as a powerful emetic. I just ignore it. I may take note of the author, for consideration in professional relationships, but I won't usually say anything about their posting.

There are a number of subreddits, dedicated to sneering at others; I am aware of ones dedicated to sneering at programmers (having been honored by their attention).

While these may be de rigueur, while in high school or early college, I believe that it's a bad idea to continue participating in these types of things, once we start earning a paycheck. Often, the people we slag, can end up in a position to do us favors, hire us, or fire us. Some corporations simply won't even consider us, if our name shows up in these places (I know that the one I worked for was obsessed with brand protection, and would not consider folks that they believed would not reflect well on their brand).

That also goes for posting attacks; no matter how "genteel," in places like this very forum. I generally avoid getting into pissing matches with folks, hereabouts.

As George Bernard Shaw said:

Never wrestle with pigs. You both get dirty and the pig likes it.

I agree, this is pretty normal across the industry. Sales people just trying to do their job and sell their product. Sometimes they are quite persistent but why complain, if you are not interested in the product they are selling, just ignore their emails.

This isn’t exclusive to Datadog. Anybody with some sort of senior or lead engineering role often gets these emails from various companies. I have received such emails from companies other than Datadog many times.
