To put this into perspective, What.CD [0] was widely considered to be the music library of Alexandria, unparalleled in both its high quality standard and it's depth. What had in the ballpark of a few million torrents when it got raided and shut down. Anna's rip of Spotify includes roughly 186 million unique records. Granted, the tail end is a mixed bag of bot music and whatnot, but the scale is staggering.

You can’t talk about what.cd without talking about its precursor OiNks Pink Palace. Even Trent Reznor was public about what an amazing place it was. Music aside, the community existing just for the shared love of music and not for any other kind of monetary or influencer gain is what set it apart. We just don’t have those kinds of communities for music online anymore

Afaik almost all ebikes do not have regen. If it's a hub motor it's often geared with a one way bearing, and if it's mid drive (getting more popular) then you cant have regen as the chain is not back-drivable.

The efficiency gains of bicycle regen is not high enough and there is added drag of pulling a motor along if you are just pedalling normally. Most regard the trade-offs to be not worth it.

There is one Canadian ebike parts manufacturer that's pushing for regen, and their main reason for doing so is that it saves on brake pad wear.

I’ve had an ebike that had regen (Stromer ST2). It wouldn’t have any effect on the battery, but was great for savings life of your brake pads

760 600 queries per day. That’s about 8.8 queries per second.

Per user it’s about 15 queries per day. I’m sure there will be some that are incredibly active and some that aren’t active at all, but 15 per day seems quite reasonable.

I have 515 since may 16 putting me as 22. So ya, math checks out. Love the service, been using them since March 2024

I think the return on investment is underplayed, it's not just what skills you graduate with, it's whether you find going to school at all rewarding. I was bored stiff in most of my classes, but having marching band to look forward to and the reward of traveling to different cities on the band bus kept me from completely checking out of school.

Maybe another aspect missing from schools lacking shop is the sense that you're trustworthy enough to put in front of a potentially lethal machine, a little bit of self worth goes a long way.

We had a metal lathe in our high school shop class. I still can’t believe someone didn’t kill themselves on that. I think wood lathes are fine, but honestly that should be kept out.

According to my usage statistics, I use Kagi around 20-50 times a day.

    Date (UTC) AI Tokens Searches
    Feb 5, 2025 0 64
    Feb 4, 2025 0 43
    Feb 3, 2025 0 19
    Feb 2, 2025 0 24
    Feb 1, 2025 0 19
They don't seem to track any form of history, only the number of searches (since some of their plans have a quota). I pay for unlimited searches, but the stats are still interesting :)

rckclmbr · a year ago
Similar stats for me. It’s become an invaluable tool, sometimes I’ll use another browser that’s has Google as default and immediately notice how much worse it is — all the ads, irrelevant cards, etc. Kagi is like the way Google was 10 years ago, which is MUCH better… with the benefit of more personalization

Quick questions por people that have used it: is it good for technical searches? Like math/programming? At some point I tried another search engine but I ended up going back to Google for those. For what type of topics do you find yourself going back to Google/other search engine?
rckclmbr · a year ago
I’ve been a subscriber for about a year. It’s best at technical searches. I would say other topics, particularly niche questions I have about like sports or something, it has a more difficult time on. Absolutely do not regret subscribing though

By your standard, either you're walking, you're riding a bicycle, or you're dependent on something - a car, a bus, or a train. And most of us don't want to be limited to bicycle range.
rckclmbr · 2 years ago
I don’t think anyone is saying we don’t need cars. They want to decrease dependence on cars. The things that are in bicycle range should be accessible by bicycle. Today, they typically aren’t

Putting aside all the ai-recommends-you-eat-a-few-rocks-a-day evidence...

Letting machines incapable of empathy, bereft of accountability for themselves or their creators, make decisions to end one or more lives, is a monstrous idea on its face.

Additionally, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imperial_boomerang

Where does it say the AI weapons make decisions?

I've been really happy with Kagi, I've been using them a while.

One feature request, I actually wanted to brag about how long I've used it, and went to my account but couldn't see a "member since...", or a full purchase history. Seems like it would be a small but awesome feature :)

The Wikipedia article claims that there was no vehicle involved. It reads more like a heart attack to me.

The sheriff said that there were no witnesses to the incident nor any indication that a vehicle was involved.

Oh wow didn’t realize that, hadn’t heard anything since the initial reports. Thanks for the clarification!
