poma commented on Tornado Cash devs charged with laundering more than $1B   theverge.com/2023/8/23/23... · Posted by u/Analemma_

The indictment says they knew they were laundering proceeds of a specific hack, by a specific group.

See page 24

Not "they created a tool and it got misused" but instead "these specific criminally sanctioned folks are using our tool to launder 600 million dollars, and we know, should we do something about that?"

Their messages back up that they know it was being used in a specific instance, by criminals, to launder money, and they did nothing.

Sorry, no sympathy. I'm with you that we need to ensure tools are available, and i'm even okay arguing about KYC/etc.

But when you have specific, actual, knowledge that a criminal actor is using your tool to launder money, and you do nothing, sorry, that's just aiding and abetting.

The smart contracts are immutable nobody can change them including the devs. When prosecution says "did nothing" they should probably mention that it was not technically possible to do anything productive.

This guy is incredible, I've been following him on Twitter since his Ueno days. An amazing designer and leader. One of my favorite projects he worked on was to literally build ramps all around Iceland: https://rampur.super.site/

Looks like people mostly praise him for those ramps, his bar, his awards, and how cool he is in general. It's still not clear what he got done at his job.

On the one hand I love this, on the other hand it's so fucking depressing that I now have to rephrase every interesting question in some sort of prompt engineery way to get a useful response. So infinitely grateful I've got SD 1.5 to keep forever ( at least until the revolution when they come to smash my GPUs)

You can use GPT-3, same brains but no filters

I tried, they don’t. Seems when they were ranking #1 on HN yesterday, someone made a summary (top comment) of what they are for that isn’t quite correct.
poma · 3 years ago
Can't find it for some reason, can you provide a link? Did they summarize with GPTSimpleVectorIndex or GPTListIndex? GPTSimpleVectorIndex is in get-started examples and is cheaper, but it provides worse results.

there is actually a paper by OpenAI themselves on summarizing long document. essentially, break a longer text into smaller chunks, and run a multi-stage sequential summarization. each chunk uses a trailing window of previous chunk as context, and run this recursively. https://arxiv.org/abs/2109.10862

did a rough implementation myself, works well for articles even 20k tokens. but kind slow because all the additional overlapping runs required. (and more costly)

gpt-index can do that automatically

How many legitimate uses can you name for TOR? And how many can you name for a money laundering service?

If you don't need financial privacy can you please post your bank statement here for everyone to see?

What would be the point of "transaction privacy"?
poma · 4 years ago
To avoid getting kidnapped and tortured because your crypto portfolio is visible to everyone?

There are plenty of examples of that: https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks
