pmkary commented on Do I not like Ruby anymore? (2024)   sgt.hootr.club/molten-mat... · Posted by u/Vedor

Back when autocompletion and stuff were only available in Visual Studio/Xcode/Other bug IDEs, I was forced to use Ruby and fell in love with it. It didn't matter what I used as my editor was Sublime. But when VSCode came and language features became democratized, I never touched a type-less language again. Why should someone opt for a language with absolutely no features where one can have autocompletion, typechecking, deep data type exploration, jumping to definitions and implementations? I really think it's a bad choice of Ruby not to care for types. And well we now have Crystal which again makes me question why Ruby? And it’s a shame no language is as beautiful as Ruby, not in features choices, design elegance, balance, beauty of the syntax, joy of programming mindset, not even in the name and logo. I wished Matz rethinked this part.

You guys are hugely on fire. Who would have thought someday a new engine rises in this climate, and then who would have thought it would be a small team, without a trillion dollar giant behind them pouring hundreds of millions into its production? This is truly one of the greatest things I have seen in my lifetime.

What about if they upgrade it to 12 months, and a fire by SMS ?
pmkary · a month ago
I actually have seen a very random company who fired its employees by SMS in the middle of the night... And not a single penny of severance packaging. They only got their last payment and that was it. It's a shame I forgot the company name to have them face some shame here...

If someone came, stole your land, raped your women, killed the children, and occupied town after town, and then forced you and rest of the survivors into a town, built walls around you, imprisoned the whole city, didn't let you do anything, brought the most racist thing upon you, silenced your cried for help in the world, payed all media to portray you as animals and dehumanize you, and all of your acts of civil conduct by one of your friends Arafat didn't result in anything, then don't get angry like Hamas and don't play the only cards remaining for you since every thing else literally is taken away. Just stay so that they can kill all of you and erase you from the face of planet. (I'm not supporting Hamas, but do you see how this is made by a world that sees the whole Palestine as something to be removed? erased?)

pmkary commented on Apple's Browser Engine Ban Persists, Even Under the DMA   open-web-advocacy.org/blo... · Posted by u/yashghelani

I wonder why they should make iOS specific engines. To be honest only two things come to my mind: Shortcuts Integration and WebExtensions. Currently Orion is trying to bring extensions but I think there is a lot to be done for that to be considered operational and if that proves to work, then only remains Shortcuts which only lets you inject JS, or say get the content of a page from a "Safari" web page (while I think every webview is basically a Safari page).

That brings me to this: Chrome extensions are valuable and we know as early as the rumors of Apple being forced to open up, Google started working on iOS port, but really, is there any justification for bringing a browser engine to iOS? I really don't understand how will it be beneficial when the user probably will notice anything.

Also we only have like four players to enter: Google (which will come), Mozilla (broke and miss-managed as hell), GNOME Web (will never come), Ladybug Browser (they are crazy and will definitely come someday, but it takes a long time for them to be an actual player)

So my question is: Will all this effort even fruit?

There never is anything more satisfying than to see maestro Victor, or maestro Kay being up voted in the hacker news.
