I’m glad that people are trying to figure out any technical flaws in the system as best they can, but if I’m being honest I do trust Apple’s engineers to have built something that is solid from a technical stand point.

Am I correct in that the primary reason folks are so upset is that the system could (probably) be easily modified such that -any- content could invoke legal action? That the main problem is really the scanning at all, and not the chances that it could be attacked by an individual actor but instead by a government?

Exactly that. The tech seems fine, but I live in a country with a government that has strong censorship laws, and I do not trust Apple to not bend to countries like China in extending this to political content.

What's the difference between changing the region to France and simply disabling the performance management function?

Yes. For small island countries like New Zealand it works "great." This was never an option for countries like the US, or even most of Europe. Much less so for countries like India.

But we'll see how it goes. If New Zealand and Australia persist in this notion that they're going to stay locked down until the virus goes away, particularly with its endemicity now inevitable, I think you will soon find vast swaths of those countries in open, violent revolt.

It worked pretty well for Thailand, a country with 3k of land borders that people can and do walk across. Delta seems to have changed the calculus though

The one thing that still bothers me is that we don't yet know how quickly this coronavirus evolves, and from what we know it very likely escaped from a gain-of-function laboratory that specializes in quickly mutating viruses. I didn't see Delta coming. I want to believe that this is the worst of it. But this coronavirus has so far kept us on our toes so it may well have a few more surprises in store

> it very likely escaped

Do you have a source for “very likely”? I’m at “plausibly escaped from” so far and would be interested in evidence that changes that in either direction.

I seem to remember English writers of that time period describing other nationalities as childlike, credulous, and superstitious on the regular so maybe everyone was just running around maligning the folks in other countries and seeing what stuck.

Also, the article title is clickbaity weird, why should people wonder if a common slur against a nationality from 3 centuries ago was true today?

The publication is a (very nicely written) right-wing rag for Little Englanders who want to believe they're a cut above Daily Mail readers.

I had been very, very excited to start semaglutide, but about eight weeks ago I picked up a CBT-based eating book called The Beck Diet Solution and I’ve so far found it very very effective

OF is a creator platform at heart and not necessarily tied to sexually explicit content except by reputation. There is a likely a huge non-porn market for helping creators of all types monetize their content. The question will be if they can actually get people to completely change their mind about what the platform is for.
peteretep · 4 years ago
Perhaps, but OnlyFans will always be a porn site in consumer imaginations moving forward. Nobody’s going to put their wholesome knitting content on there moving forward
