MomoIP LLC only applied for the trademark about a week ago-- after Pont Neuf Productions LLC trademark of the term wasn't kept up-to-date and expired in February.

Also the one they do own (“chile crunch”) was ironically acquired as a result of their own infringement

> Momofuku acquired “chile crunch” in 2023 from the Denver company Chile Colonial, LLC as part of a legal settlement. Chile Colonial had taken legal action against Momofuku for “trademark infringement, unfair competition”, according to court documents.

Porn is not a liberating force. It's like being mad at the government for making it hard for you to smoke cigarettes.

Right, but also porn is often a commercial engine for tech innovation (even if indirectly, as in this case), which in turn can be leveraged as a liberating force.
p00b commented on The wealth of the 1% just hit a record $44T   cnbc.com/2024/03/28/wealt... · Posted by u/rntn

If do some rough math, 1% of the world's population is 81 million. So at $44T, if you took that $44T and split it up equally, each person would have ~$550,000 USD.

Doesn't seem like such a big number any more. I'd bet many people on HN have more wealth than that.

Actually, I'd bet many people on HN are in the top 1% of wealth globally.

That is not how this article explicitly defines “the 1%” in the first few sentences.

> the top 1%, defined by the Fed as those with wealth over $11 million

For what it's worth, Great Scott Gadgets (Michael Ossman's group) put out a great series of primers [1] on Software Defined Radio (SDR) and the fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) a while back, that are some of the best I've seen out there to date.

“As soon as the tailor saw me he embraced me and started sobbing,” Mr. Zimmer said. “I have a bond with tailors. It’s not because I’m a tailor myself but because they know I care about how they experience their jobs.”

On a day like today, I am especially grateful for all the "Mr. Zimmer"s in the world who respect the craft, even if they're not a craftsman themself. The tech world needs more of this kind of guy.

John Rauser of pinterest gave a wonderful talk about TCP and the lower bound of Internet latency recently that has a lot in common with what's discussed in the article here. Worth a watch I think if you enjoyed the blog post.

For emphasis there is italics, which you can make by adding asterisks around the word.

This definitely plays well with an idea I've pontificated on for a long time, to the dismay/annoyance of my close friends and colleagues.

The thought is simply that the process of iconifying anything (words, people, companies) inherently decouples the item from the original idea behind it. This introduces a dangerous implication wherein the icon can then be re-appropriated in support of literally any idea, including the antithesis of the original idea this thing was supposed to represent.

Everything from "Disruptive Technology" to "Christian" to "ObamaCare" to "Terrorist" (feel free to replace the last with Witch, Homosexual, Communist, or an assortment of derogatory racial slurs, depending the era you're discussing) is subject to this sort of propagandizing via the iconifying process.

Scary stuff, and very important to notice and discuss now, before "Freedom of Speech" becomes simply another of the icons.

If I wanted to do something like this I'd create open WiFi access points called something like "DeadDrop". They wouldn't be connected to the internet. Instead they'd forward you to a locally hosted site that let you download and upload from local storage.

WiFi has a lot of advantages. You eliminate the risk of USB attacks, physical damage to the device, and the actual location is unknown. The downside is that it would require power.
