> And then questions get asked of how techies have become so despised by part of the general population and why they feel so out of touch in comparison to said general population. We’ve become averse to even holding the proverbial chat with the proverbial taxi driver.

Ever consider that maybe some of those "techies" were maybe mistreated and abused by so-called "normal" folks purely for their interest in technology and science topics? Bullied, hated, insulted, phyiscally attacked even? Not for any valid reasons, nor even because they were "out of touch", but became out of touch and averse to interacting with others due to all the ongoing abuse over their interest in a topic that dirtbag bully types consider "nerdy"? Reading bad! Learning bad! Trying to better one's self BAD! Absuing others GOOD! Maybe after many years of that kinda treatment, some of us are more comfortable with machines than we are with humans because so many humans are just literal monsters, and not worth trying to interact with.

It always seems to shock HNers, but there is in fact an entire country outside of the bay area where most of the US population lives.

ozzcer commented on The Complex Relationship Between ADHD, Autism, and Personality Disorders   traudhd.com/p/autism-adhd... · Posted by u/rendx

I dislike the term because it is, in fact, not that common.

I am diagnosed ADHD but I don't have any symptom of autism (sensory overload, difficulty reading social cues, gender dysphoria, repetitive behaviour etc.) and I wish they were studied separately as the physiology, pharmacology and the effect on quality of life is completely different between ADHD and autism.

Without mentioning the effect on focus and executive function, which is basically all ADHD is, and presents the complete opposite in autism: repetitive behaviour and long-lasting focus in niche interests vs squirrel brain with flashes of hyperfocus.

If they seem comorbid on social media profiles, it might be because everybody and their dog seems to have ADHD today, so is pretty much meaningless. You could attach it to any personality disorder you wish.

I mean neither are particularly well defined or well understood diagnosises. Just identify with whatever helps you get through the day we're all in this together. I've been diagnosed with quite severe ADHD but the psychologist admitted I was displaying several autism symptoms as well so really it could be either but the fastest route to treatment here in the UK is ADHD (still shockingly slow). Seeing as the symptoms and treatments overlap and our medical systems are generally poorly equipped to deal with either I think fussing the line is a bit of a waste of time. Also not that many people are diagnosed or identify as ADHD, most people are neurotypical hence the typical bit, if you feel like ADHD is everywhere you need to get out of whatever echo chamber has been designed to make you angry about it. More love.

Getting the vibe that both parties are probably at fault here. Sounds like python community can be a bit overzealous in it's enforcement of generally good rules, and potentially might be politically motivated to silence someone who wants to affect change. But also that Thomas Wouters is failing to understand context and time and place, with his other infractions (like overt endorsement of slurs) making him an easy target for censoring. Like if you want a community to be more welcoming to your point of view you don't do it by upsetting others in it. Also as someone diagnosed with ADHD, burn Babylon.

I’ve been forced to dispose of empty bottles at security because it said 500ml on the side.

Selective enforcement and shifting requirements is one of the major issues with airport security.

Some places force off belts and shoes, and force you to remove laptops and electronics from bags, some force them to be in your bag… it’s very annoying that it’s not consistent across airports. (in europe).

I've been in Gatwick at times before when one queue has a hard arse taking off people's shoes and the next one along doesn't care if you take your liquids out your bag. Not sure why having a set of rules and sticking to them is so difficult.

Wasn't it always 100ml?

If I understand this correctly there are new scanners that should make it easier to detect explosives, I guess. But while they do have these new scanners, they still will not allow more than 100ml, which was the case already.

ozzcer · 2 years ago
Several airports with the new scanners had lifted the 100ml rule in the EU

So why did all the airports just buy the new fancy scanners? One of the British airports (can't remember which now) had to redo an entire floor to support the weight of the new scanners lol. What a waste.

Does this mean a computer without internet access and with CrowdStrike would be unable to start up?
ozzcer · 2 years ago
Surely a computer without internet would not have received the update?
