Technically he entered "without permission" but at the urging of the patient. Still negligence, though more understable. I wonder if a metal detector that prevents opening the door would help? Perhaps with a big, scary red override button for emergencies?

Nobody should have permission and be kept away at all times by staff. They'd probably follow rules for a while now.

This explains so much. I was wondering how in the hell the damn chain I've already broken twice with mere snags was going to hurl my body through the air towards a machine like that.

Yeesh, what would happen with a wedding ring? If it was a magnetic band would it just sheer through your finger whizzing towards the machine?

Probably not enough mass to kill you but the pull must be considering.

Crazy idea here. Why don’t we just have the best of both worlds?

We want trains to operate more reliably, and be computer operated with just one or zero humans on board. OK, let’s do that.

MTA employees don’t want to lose their livelihoods. That’s reasonable. I’m perfectly happy to pay them their existing salary and benefits to sit at home and do nothing. We won’t hire anyone new, and the job will eventually disappear. In the meantime, anyone who already has that job, congrats. Early retirement, paid in full. Enjoy the beach. We were going to spend that money on your salary anyway, so what does it matter? There are worse things to spend taxpayer money on.

How about convert those jobs from train operators to bus operators and have more bus service from the same budget?

I'd say we're not far off.

Looking at the human side, it takes a while to actually learn something. If you've recently read something it remains in your "context window". You need to dream about it, to think about, to revisit and repeat until you actually learn it and "update your internal model". We need a mechanism for continuous weight updating.

Goal-generation is pretty much covered by your body constantly drip-feeding your brain various hormones "ongoing input prompts".

How are we not far off? How can LLMs generate goals and based on what?

Microsoft is the worst offender at renaming their products and services with such bad confusing names I don't think it's helping anyone, including Microsoft.

Every bad day for windows is another great day for Linux.

You have choices. Make them.

Too bad that most people who are on windows only would never be capable of managing their Linux environment and instead of leaving Microsoft they learn to cope with how the new Windows is running and call that the new reality.

Go back to Facebook's Real Names rule. Require Know Your Customer validation. No fake name postings. Maybe allow explicit anonymous posting, but readers can block.

Facebook or any other corpo is not to be trusted with anything again.

I imagine people will soon have AI post here and other logged in forums on behalf of them. Try and rack up Karma or build reputation.

I think some are already doing this.
